ITS MY BABYS BIRTHDAY OMGG I CANT DEAL. I CANT COPE. HE ISNT A TEENAGER ANYMORE HOLY COW
Written 01/08/18My boyfriend lay stretched across his bed, a guitar against the wall and three notepads surrounding him.
I sat in the corner, watching as he attempted to write lyrics and then match them to a tune.I patiently sat there for ages, watching his face scrunch in concentration. I listened to everything he sang, taking it in.
After two hours of him working uninterrupted, he sat back, sighing.
"Babe?", I asked, walking over to the bed. I placed my hands on his chest. He looked up.
"The song is good, sure it could be better, but good for a first draft. I personally have a few ideas", I tell him, smiling slyly."Shoot", he says, inviting me to share my thoughts.
"Really?"
"Yeah. You've been observing all this and I could use the help. Plus you usually have good ideas", he says. I rub his shoulders, getting excited about my input into the song."Okay well I think you should try it from a different perspective", I suggest, "you've been singing 'I'll let you down slow' as the point of view of you breaking up with someone but what about 'Baby let me down slow' as the point of view asking your lover to break up with you gently", I suggest biting my lip and hoping he doesn't think the idea is stupid.
He thinks about it and nods "it could work", he mutters and begins playing the cords on his guitar, humming the parts he hasn't figured out yet.
"Y/n", he exclaims after, "you're a genius"
He plants a celebratory kiss on my lips and I smile
"I do my best", I tease. He stops talking for a moment, silent as he is deep in thought.
"What about this part?", he asks and proceeds to sing a few lines.
"I'm just here on my own tryna laugh it off. When the night is over we are holding on for something to change but it stays the same", he finishes the line unsure, and I know he is struggling with the delivery.
"How about leave the first part the same, but just bring it a little higher and try this.
'When the night comes crawling I'm holding on' I sing it a bit higher than he was and change the night is over to when the night comes crawling and the we to I'm. He nods his approval."And what about
'For something to change, or something to break", I suggest and he smiles at me, jotting it down and kissing me quickly before he continues."You said I was hiding and you got a right to know, but nothing's different in the way I look-", "Blake?" I interrupt and he stops strumming to look at me.
He scratches his neck, "yeah?", he sighs.
"We changed the point of view remember?", I smirk and he nods in acknowledgement, remembering our earlier agreement."What are you hiding, cause I got a right to know", he sings cautiously looking to me for approval. I give him a smile and a thumbs up.
"What's been different in the way we look", he stops singing and shakes his head again. "I want to change that", he mutters, crossing it out in his notebook. I rack my brains and answer him after a minute.
"There's something different in the way you look", I offer uncertainly.
He smiles, "what would I do without you?"He runs through the lines we already have and finishes getting the cords right for them before we continue.
"What are you fighting, if you're gonna let me go... it's gonna hurt to let me go. Baby let me down slow. Baby let me down slow", he sings to me a Capella as he hasn't yet written the tune to this part.
"Good", I praise, "but maybe try "it's gonna hurt to choose your words so baby let me down slow" just a suggestion", I smile and he nods, trying both lyrics again and then decides to go with mine.
"You've written more of this song than me", he laughs to me and I blush "we all know you're the songwriter here", I tell him honestly.
"Yeah but my songs would be crap without your input", he laughs and leans in to kiss me."Maybe", I muse as I pull away, "but all I do is add to the ideas you already have", I challenge him.
"Maybe", he mocks, "I need you as my inspiration", he leans in to kiss me again and I push him away lightly, "haven't you had enough kissing, finish your song""But I'll only finish it with inspiration, I need your lips", he pouts and I grin and scoff, "you want me to inspire a break up song?"
"I'd never want you to inspire a break up song!", he insists, "how about we park this idea for now and write a love song", he suggests with a wink.
"After all my genius ideas?", I ask, "not a chance, we are finishing this one"
"Oh we are, are we?", he smirks.
"Yes, we", I smile and I love the sound of it.It takes three more hours but eventually we finish the song and just like that 'Let Me Down Slow' is born.
