"It's just us in the middle of rumours, but I'm not talking"- Rumours, Jacob Whitesides

Reece sat in their hotel room, scrolling casually through twitter. George was in the shower and Blake had gone out somewhere with Ben.

He liked and replied to a few tweets as he scrolled but then he came to a tweet that stopped his motions. He stared blankly at his phone, heart pounding and hands seemingly unable to move. He read it twice, studying the picture carefully and only found the strength to react once his phone screen began to darken.
He tapped the screen once to keep it on and read the tweet once more.

Attached was a high quality picture taken yesterday. It showed Reece and George exiting a restaurant late last night. They were holding each other's hands tightly. The picture was clearly them. Reece's green eyes were trained firmly to the ground, his upper lip just slightly curled as a massive smile erupted across his face. George's ocean blue eyes were looking at Reece adoringly, and Reece hated to admit it, but they looked quite obviously together.

"We aren't though", he muttered aloud, his eyebrows drawing close as confusion took over his mind.
"Why do we look so comfortable together? Why do we look like a couple?", he questioned and then shut down his phone before the mindset of the rumours got too much.

Instead he flicked on the small hotel tv and waited for George to finish getting ready.

---

Something was bothering Reece, George could tell this much, although it was impossible to know what was on the older boys mind, especially as he was too stubborn to open up when he was struggling.

"R, what's up?", George's hands ran up and down Reece's arms continuously.
"It's nothing", Reece murmured, squirming underneath the younger boys touch and twisting to get away.
George removed his hand as if he'd been burned by Reece's rejection.

"Oh, okay", he muttered, turning away from Reece, finding Blake and Ben instead.

The first thing they asked was "what's wrong?", but George didn't know and Reece's bad mood was getting to him, whether he wanted it to or not, so he choose not to answer.

"I'm going out to get coffee, you coming George?", Ben announced after George's silence became a little uncomfortable. George glanced up and shrugged.
"Cmon it'll do you good to get out", Ben encouraged.
"What are you my father?", George thought but he fought the creeping scowl that was threatening to emerge and instead grabbed his shoes and followed Ben from the apartment, leaving Blake behind to deal with Reece's bad mood.

---
"Reece, you can tell me what's going on, whatever it is, I'll try my best to help", Blake urged his best friend to speak to him.
"It's nothing", Reece said in a tone that suggested he was annoyed Blake had asked and he didn't want to elaborate on the topic.

"It's clearly not nothing", Blake tried again.
"Blake", Reece growled, "I said, drop it!", he warned, and this time Blake took a step back, shocked at the older boys tone and hostility.

Blake mumbled something incoherent and left Reece on his own.

---
When George and Ben arrived back to the hotel room, Reece was still sitting there, head in hands, and drowning in his guilt. He shouldn't have spoken to Blake that way, the youngest boy was only trying to help and Reece could see that now, but at the time he was too caught up in his confusion to allow Blake a chance.
