Chapter 18: Trouble in paradise

"What!!! No!! He can't do that!! I will kill him...today!!! Now!! That bastard will not fuck up my best friend's life!!!" Stella squealed.

"No, Stella!! We have to think about this carefully."

"I will not allow you to let that asshole use you!!"

"I know! But...Mahir needs to know. Stella he needs to know!! I can't keep him in the dark. God, I'm so scared!!"

"I'll ask Priyank to take us to his house."

"Who's Priyank??"

"The guy on the plane."

"Are you sure, Stel?"

"100%"

We discreetly made it to Mahir's house at early hours of the morning so that no one would know. Stella really rescued me this time. I knock on his front door and he takes forever to open.

"Rita...?"

"Mahir, this is urgent!" I tell him, slipping in the house.

I start pacing up and down not knowing where to start. "Ritasha, are you okay? What happened...?"

"Mahir....it's....it's Arjun. He..."

"Tell me, baby!!"

"He's got this video of you and I...He threatened to make it viral and known to uncle Karan..."

"Uncle Karan?"

"Principal Patel!!! Mahir I'm scared!!! This can't happen...I can't...I can't let him do this to you...to us. He said not to tell anyone but I can't sit back and do nothing. I don't want to be banished before the finals. I don't care about me but I can't ruin your career Mahir....." I tell him hastily starting to sob and he takes me in his arms, stroking my hair.

"Sshh, babe. Nothing will happen. I bet it's an empty threat. He has no evidence."

"It's not!!! I saw the video with my eyes!! Its the one of us...getting it on in your class. He has it..."

"Fuck!! What does he want in return then?" I look at Mahir and turn away. How could I tell him? "Ritasha, please tell me now."

"Sexual favours from me."

"That bastard!!! He will not touch you, if he touches you I'll kill him!!!"

"Mahir....What can we do??"

"I'll handle it, love. Don't worry. He won't ruin us!! Not now, not ever..."

"He gave me an ultimatum. If I don't give him an answer by today, tomorrow morning....He will..." I fail to complete the rest of my sentence as Mahir comforts me.

He was comforting me so sweetly but I could see him burning with fury. It reminded me of that day when Arjun and I were arguing in the library. I didn't see this side of Mahir but I could tell that he was a strong man to handle this. He was willing to risk everything for me. It made me love him even more deeper.

"Go home and get some sleep. Do not reply to him. I promise I'll sort it out."

"Are you....really gonna kill him?" I ask with fear.

"I would like to..." My eyes pop out of the sockets. "...but I know you won't like that. I have my ways of handling people."

"Mahir, I don't want to lose you. You're everything to me...I want to have a life with you. One where we don't have to keep secretly meeting. And it's not far from now but now things are getting in the way....why....?"

"I promise you, Ritasha, we'll have a life. I don't care about anything, as long as I have you. I'll fulfill every dream, every wish of yours. Even if I lose...I'll still win with you."

"I love you so much, Mahir!!!!"

"I love you too, my Rita!! Go now. And be careful. Call me if there's anything you need. Wait! Did you come here alone?!!" He asks worriedly.

"Stella and her boyfriend brought me." He eases when I tell him. He sends me out with a kiss.

I couldn't get any sleep but I still tried to forget about everything. Stella couldn't sleep either seeing me so worried. I wonder what the day has in store. What's Mahir going to do???

The whole of Sunday was spent in misery. I didn't get a call from Arjun. And I wasn't stupid to call him either. I wanted to ask Mahir about what he planned but I was still puzzling. What if I don't give an answer and tomorrow morning things turn out ugly?

Suddenly, a riot broke out in campus. There were full police everywhere. Everyone scooted to their dorms and search warrants were being held. What was going on, I had no clue!! The female police searched the girl's dorms and it was pretty decent except for a few on the upper floor.

Principal Patel held a search every year. It was always on the least expected days. There were over 100 boys being arrested from the boy's hostel. I guessed it could have been because of drugs and alcohol. It was mostly the freshmen. Poor them, didn't know about it.

Everything was visible from the hostel balcony. We saw the boys getting into the van. My eyes almost shot my brain when I saw Arjun getting arrested. Was I believing my eyes!!? Everyone gasped in shock of why he got arrested.

He was pulling out of their grip but a strong policeman caught hold of him and threw him in the van in one go. The policeman then turned around looking at the girls standing at the balcony. When his gaze flickers over me, he smiles. Okay, what was going on???

All of this was really confusing. Then it dawned on me that Mahir could've been behind this. I went back to the dorm and was about to phone him when he lit up my phone instead.

Mahir: How's the drama?

Ritasha: Did you do that?

Mahir: I may have had a hand.

Ritasha: Mahir, you have to explain!!

Mahir: Divyanka and her boyfriend helped us.

Ritasha: What!? How?

Mahir: I told Divyanka about us and how the bastard was threatening us. So she told her boyfriend, inspector Abhishek. I knew about principal Patel's search warrant thing. It was perfect to take advantage of. Abhishek got all of his technological devices and brought it to me. I think we should do the honours of destroying them together.

Ritasha: Wow....that's a lot. Divya is so sweet. Now I understand why the policeman smiled at me. He's quite hot...But how can they arrest Arjun without evidence?

Mahir: Did I mention that Divyanka is a private detective? Like professional...so she framed him with weed.

Ritasha: Damn, that's awesome. I really underestimated the woman...

Mahir: You can study peacefully now, baby.

Ritasha: Thank you for everything Mahir!! Let's pray the holiday season comes fast.
