The goal is more important than the role,
We're hustlers

Chapter seven:

SAHLA'S P.O.V

"Thanks honey," I said giving Tanko a slight peck on the cheek.

He just smiled and nodded. He's a man of few words, only talks when necessary and that's what i like most about him. He's my boyfriend by the way.

In English class, he was telling me that Ramlah (She's a total bitch, I don't like her but i have to put up with her because shes the girlfriend of Isqeel, Tanko's best bud.) told Isqeel she caught Afeerah listening into her convo.

If that wasn't good news, you'll see.

Isqeel pretty much told her to brush it off but i talked him into getting Afeerah by the dumpster so we could make her pay.

And that's how we beat her up to a pulp and threw her in the dumpster, not because she eavesdropped but because she was getting on my last nerve and i wanted her to suffer.

I think I've done a good job at making everyone hate her, those who were calling her beautiful were now calling her maid.

Some even went as far as calling her match maid in hell or maid in Manhattan. They're both books and movies but since it includes the word maid they don't care.

And everyone's attention is now back to me, just like before. Not exactly, everyone's attention is on Afeerah too but in a mocking kinda way.

They don't like her.

"We should go home already Sahal." I said when i saw him walk to us.

"I just came to tell you that." I said with no sense of humor. "Where's Afeerah anyway?"

"Probably still in the dumpster." I shrugged.

"Are you serious? You mean we're going without her?"

"Not if she comes out now." I said waving at Tanko as he made his leave.

"No matter how much i want to leave her here you know we can't. Dad will definitely ask for her." He sighed.

"Oh fine. Muje mu bude ta." I mumbled.

We walked to the dumpster in silence.

I backed away because of the foul odor coming from inside.

Sahal on the other hand just blocked his nostril and pushed the lid open.

I heard him gasp.

The first thing that came to my mind was; "Sahal she's dead isn't she?" I gasped.

As much as i hated her, I didn't want to end up in jail.

"No. She's not here." He whispered.

I gathered up enough courage to peek and sure enough, the dumpster only held garbage, garbage and more garbage.

Sahal face palmed himself. "Where the hell can she be?"

"And we can't go home without her."

"We have to find her real quick."

❇❇❇

After an hour of searching, we couldn't find her.

It was like she disappeared.

"Maybe we should just go without her?" I suggested even though I knew it was a stupid thing to say.

Sahal looked at me like i grew to heads. "You're kidding right?" He laughed humorlessly.

I rolled my eyes. "Where didn't we check?"

"They're only two places we haven't checked that are in use. The library and the bathroom that no one uses."

"Let's split up, I'll check the library and you can check the bathroom." I said.

He walked away and i did the same, heading for the library which was on the third floor. The school was pretty much empty right now, only some janitors remained.

The library was locked, so she couldn't possibly be in there.

I sighed. That idiot better have an explanation when we find her. I'm supposed to be having my beauty sleep but instead here i am wasting my time trying to find some fool.

I went down and met Sahal.

"Let's just leave, I'm done wasting my time." He said unexpectedly. Sahal could never say that.

"Are you serious?" I kind of laughed.

He opened his mouth to talk but muffled sobs were heard.

From the Janitor's closet.

"We didn't check there did we?" He muttered.

I just nodded and strutted confidently and opened the door.

It was a sight to see i tell you.

She was a mess, her wounds were turning purple, her eyes were swollen and so were other parts of her body.

Her uniform was torn and dirty and i didnt miss the odor.

Her hijab was discarded beside her and her black silky hair was sprawled everywhere.

She didn't look worried or scared that i came in, she didnt even acknowledge me. Her eyes held a blank look.

"What do you think your-" i started but she cut me off.

"Is it so hard to be happy? Why can't I be happy in my life?" She stumbled.

Sahal just stood and stared at us blankly.

"How dare you cut me-" she cut me off again.

"Sahla it's alright. I'm tired. I'm tired of this messed up world. You know dying is much better than living in this wicked world. I don't want to live anymore, just leave me alone. I have had it! if I have to live like this then its better to die." She laughed a kind of empty laugh.

This time she got me dumbfounded. I didn't feel a bit of pity, i was just shocked.

That's when i noticed the shining knife in her left hand and the right hand was bleeding.

Again, i couldn't talk snd judging the silence, neither could Sahal.

"It's better to die." She said pointing the knife at her chest.
