Poem/Quote of the day:

Go and watch Coco 2018

Chapter Thirty Two:

SAHAL'S P.O.V

I knew Sahla was right. Afeerah had definitely moved on and forgotten everything about us.

But what about me? What about how I felt? All these years I waited for her in the hopes that someday she'd come back to me. That someday we could become more than what we had been. But when she finally came back, she was married and expecting.

I didn't let it show but it broke my heart into pieces knowing that Afeerah was never mine and she will never be because she continued to live her life while I stopped mine to start a life with her.

I called the maid and after taking deep breaths, I went back to the parlor where Afeerah and that man were seated.

My eyes immediately fell on the intertwined fingers, and her head rested on his shoulder. My heart was set ablaze as I watched them in silence, none of them seemed to notice me.

Afeerah lifted her head and her eyes locked with mine. The pair of warm eyes held a look of pity and sheer regret. "Sahal." She said causing her husband to look up at me.

"You can go to your room," I said not bothering to tell them were the room was. I left the parlor with a heavy heart and regretful soul.

Did she ever love me? Did she ever feel something for the guy who was always there? The guy who helped her? The guy who loved her? The guy who took care of her at a time?

The guy who waited for her to come back and start a life as a couple. Maybe I dreamt too much. Because right now it seemed impossible for us to ever have something apart from acquaintances because I knew I could never be friends with her knowing she could never be mine.

Never.

###

A week already flew by and Afeerah and her husband were still here. I didn't talk to any of them, merely sharing awkward glances for a few times.

Dad's lawyer was to come today and read out dad's will. Ofcourse Afeerah had to be there because she was his only legitimate child.

"May we proceed with the reading?" The lawyer asked. He arrived a few minutes ago and Sahla, Afeerah and I were in the study with him waiting for him to proceed with the reading.

We answered in affirmative and he cleared him throat.

I wasn't really attentive as he read the will, waiting for him to finish so he could summarize it and explain what it meant.

My eyes drifted over to Afeerah's face. She wasn't wearing any makeup, wearing a simple blue evening gown and a white veil covered her hair. She was glowing from her pregnancy and it pained me to know that the child she was carrying wasn't mine and it could never be mine.

"Mr. Othman Lukman gives Afeerah Othman Lukman his house, the Othman Lukman foundations and his other properties abroad, she is also to inherit the wealth in his bank account. Sahal Othman Lukman and Sahla Othman Lukman are given the GIS schools and Othman hospitals." The lawyer summarized. I had to replay everything before it sunk it. Afeerah practically got everything dad had.

I felt sahla's eyes on me and I turn to look at her perplexed expression.

"What?" Sahla shrieked, the color from her face completely draining.

The lawyer didn't heed to her reaction, instead, he proceeded. "Mr Othman Lukman wrote this letter for his daughter." My heart clenched. Daughter.

He handed a white envelope to Afeerah. Not looking at any of us, she stuffed it into her purse.

"Is that all?" She asked him, tears finding their way to her eyes.

The lawyer didn't get the chance to speak because of Sahla's sudden outburst.

"What did you do to my father? What did you give him to make him give you everything he owns. What?!! You're nothing but a gold digger, you only came back because of the inheritance, you never cared for him you ungrateful bitch! You weren't there when he mourned your absence on his birthday, he didn't even look at me because he only thought about you. You weren't there when he started getting sick! You weren't there when he said his final words and you know what? It was about you! Even when he was about to die, he thought of you! You weren't there when he took his final breath! You weren't there for his jana'izah! But you're here now because of the money and nothing but the money. He loved you with all his heart, and each time he loved you the more, he loved me less. I hate you Afeerah. You might have all this money now but you're nothing but a maid!" Sahla shouted, tears of anger falling down her contoured cheeks.

Afeerah was about to stand up, eyes watery-but in the process, her eyes closed for a second before she wobbled under her feet.

With reflex, I quickly saved her from the fall. My eyes scanned her face as she lay unconscious in my arms.

"Don't touch my wife."
