Chapter Twenty Four

SAHAL'S P.O.V

"Afeerah!" I shouted.

It all happened too fast. One second Sahla was about to get hit, and another, Afeerah saves her and gets hit.

The car driver didn't even stop, he just sped away.

I ran to the two girls, both lying on the empty street. Sahla didn't have any injuries, just minor scratches. My eyes drifted to Afeerah.

Blood was oozing out of her head and limbs.

I stared in shock. "Afeerah!" I tried again.

I bent down to her level and placed my hand on her shoulder. "Afeerah, please wake up, please."

She didn't even move, her eyes closed in the direction of sahla's now shattered iPhone 8.

I checked her pulse, quickly muttering an alhamdulilah with the result.

More blood pooled around us and my clothes were stained.

With shaky hands, I dialled our hospital's reception number.

"Assalamualaikum, this is Othman & co hospital. How may I help you?" The usual greeting was said.

"This is Sahal Othman Lukman, there's an emergency. Send an ambulance to the front of  yaradua conference centre immediately." I seethed.

"Right away sir." The receptionist said.

I waited for her to hang up but she didn't.

"Anything else?" She asked.

"No!" I shouted but she didn't hang up.

"Could you please hang up sir? You see, its a form of disrespect for me to hang up on-" I didn't let her finish because i threw the phone as far away from me as I could.

"Hang on Afeerah, help is on the way." I whispered stroking her soft hair.

I glanced at Sahla who was still unconscious.

How could she be so careless?

Hissing, I rubbed my forehead because of the faint sounds of music coming from the hall. Nobody would even know something happened out here.

It was about 2am so the road was quiet and scarce.

After a few minutes which seemed like hours, an ambulance sped up to us.

Two paramedics jumped out with the small bed and they launched Afeerah on it, moving to Sahla and doing the same to her, even though I didn't see the need.

"Are you hurt sir?" A paramedic asked.

"Do I look hurt? That girl just got run over by a car and you're asking me if I'm hurt? Are you deranged?" I screamed totally losing my patience.

"I'm sorry sir, I just-"

"Why don't you just shut the f**k up and do your job? Or do you want me to get you fired you idiot?"

He shook his head and turned away. I got up and jumped into the ambulance, glaring at the paramedics.

The ride was filled with anticipation as I watched them reserve Afeerah.

Sahla was lying on the bed, still unconscious.

I ran out and followed them as they entered the hospital, Afeerah on her bed.

There were doctors and nurses everywhere.

"The ER. Tell the available doctors to get ready for surgery!"

We rushed to the front of the ER.

"You can't go in sir."

I nodded exasperatedly and sat down on a waiting chair, pulling my suit off.

They entered the ER and I saw doctors and nurses enter after them, after that, I was left alone to my thoughts.

"Let's go home." Sahla said, walking up to me. Her face was tear stained and worn.

I glared at her without saying a word.

"Sahal let's get-"

"How dare you?!" I spat. "If you had at least been careful none of this would have happened and now you're telling me to just go home are you kidding me?! I swear to almighty Allah that if anything happens to her u will be held responsible and I'll make sure you pay."

She stared at me in shock. "Don't you see? She's a hypocrite! She just wanted to get your attention and you're falling for it!"

"You're an ungrateful bi***! Better stop praying that she makes it out because if she doesn't yell going to pay and I'll make sure that you end up like her."

"You're so stupid, how can you fall for that maid's tricks?" She spat.

"She might be a maid but she's better than you at anything!"

She gasped and stared at me, with a pained face. Fake.

"You're a fake, a hypocrite, an idiot, a lunatic! That said, I hate you so much Sahla."

Tears filled her eyes. "Don't let her tear us apart even if we weren't close, we were before."

"I regret ever being close to someone like you. I hate you. And if I see your face again today, I swear I'll snap and things will get ugly." I said and closed my eyes.

After ten seconds, I opened them and she was gone.

A small part of my heart broke, knowing I lost someone very important to me.

If only the old Sahla was here.

But I know she'll never be back, I've lost my sister.

I sighed and sat down, not knowing when I fell asleep.

"Mr. Sahal?" A person called, tapping my shoulder.

I got up abruptly. It was a doctor.

"Is she alright?"

"I'm afraid there're some bad news." He said.

And just like that, my heart broke into bits.
