Poem/Quote of the day:

Believe and you can achieve.

Chapter Twenty Five:

SAHLA'S P.O.V

I walked off without a word, knowing that he was already fooled.

The events that occurred rushed through my mind.

I was very sure the car was going to hit me but then I was pushed to the ground.

And the stupid idiot had to get herself run over just to get Sahal's attention.

I think I fainted because I woke up in a hospital room.

When the little encounter with Sahal happened I walked to the receptionist and dialled daddy's number.

He answered on the second ring.

"Daddy!" I whined.

"Sahla? Why are you calling with this number?"

All in one breath, I told him all that happened.

"She got run over? Where is she?" He asked with a worried tone.

"Daddy I was almost run over." I sighed.

"Sahla you're alright now right? I'm on my way to the hospital." He hung up.

Why didn't anyone care about me? Why is it Afeerah? Why always Afeerah?!

I sighed and sat at a waiting chair close to the entrance.

After a few minutes, Mr. Othman Lukman burst into the door and his eyes fell on me.

"Where is she?" He asked.

"Daddy I almost got run over and you're asking-" I started but he cur me off.

"Well you didn't get run over right? Well she got run over trying to save you. Where is she?" He asked.

"In the ER," I sighed looking down. "The ER in the second floor." I added and timidly followed behind him as he made his way there.

We were greeted by a torn looking Sahal and a grim looking doctor.

"What is the bad news?" Sahal asked.

Daddy walked between them.

"Assalamualaikum Mr. Othman." The doctor greeted with respect.

But daddy didn't answer, he only said; "What's the bad news?"

The doctor sighed. "Sir, I'm afraid she's lost too much blood and desperately needs a blood transplant."

"I can give her my blood, I'm O+," Sahal mentioned.

"I wasn't done, she needs a blood transolant from a person with her blood. A person who is related to her by blood, her family. And in her hospital slip, it was written that she's an orphan." The doctor continued.

Sahal's face dropped. "No. There must be another way to save her. Please doctor. You can take all my blood just please don't let anything bad happen to her."

Daddy has been silent the whole while so I jumped when I heard his voice. "I'll give her my blood."

The doctor had a grim look on his face. "Alright then. Please come so your blood can be tested for any diseases." He said.

"I'll be there in a minute." Daddy said and the doctor excused himself.

But he just said it has to be her family member.

"Daddy didn't you hear him? It has to be her family member." I said.

"I'm sorry kids, I didn't want to tell you this now, I wanted to wait till both of you were ready. But I guess I have to tell you now."

"Tell us what?" Sahal asked.

"It all started when my wife was in labour, she gave birth to twins but the boy, my son died a few minutes after he was born. Bilkees wasn't in the state to be told that her other child died because it might've affected her badly." He started.

I didn't get where he was going. Sahal was alive and well. He isn't dead. What does he mean?

"So the doctor told me about a couple, the woman gave birth at the same time my wife did and the woman gave birth to twins. But they were really poor and they couldn't take care of two kids. So there was a switch. I and Bilkees were given the twins while the other couple were given the girl Bilkees gave birth to. We made a pact that I'd send them money every month for the upbringing of my daughter but after three months, they disappeared with my daughter. I searched for her in vain but after years and years of my hunt, I found out that she has spent most of her life in a foster home. That was a year and some months ago. I brought my daughter to my house to work as a maid till I told you the truth." He continued.

I was dizzy with confusion. I didn't understand what he was saying.

"Bilkees never found out and neither did Afeerah." He finished with a sigh.

Afeerah? She's his...what?

"What do you mean daddy?" I slurred, seeing double.

"Don't you get it Sahla?! Afeerah is his daughter and we're the orphans here!!" Sahal shouted at me.

I felt like the whole world came crumbling down on me.

It can't be.

Afeerah is daddy's daughter?

I'm an orphan?
Noooooo.
