Aoife's P.O.V.
"Don't be nervous." Ashton giggled at how I kept shuffling my feet and playing with the sleeves of my jumper.
"What if they don't like me?" I asked.
Today I was meeting Ashton's band mates for the first time. I'd seen photos and of course watched all of their YouTube videos - but seeing them in real life scared the hell out of me. I'll be the first to admit I'm socially awkward, as well as incredibly shy. I fucking hate it. They were gonna take one look at me and be like 'What the hell is wrong with that chick?'
"Stop being silly! They'll love you." He winked and squeezed my hand reassuringly.
I took a deep breath and waited anxiously in Ashton's garage for his three best friends to show up. I felt physically sick. Like literally, I thought I was gonna throw up.
"THEY'RE HERE!" Ashton yelled, jumping up and down like a 7-year-old schoolgirl who just met Winnie the Pooh or something.
Bloody hell they've only been separated for six days.
"Okay, calm down." I actually had to grip his shoulders to stop him from jumping; which made us both laugh like idiots.
The three boys jogged over to us excitedly. My knees felt like jelly.
"ASHTON!" They all cheered, engulfing him a cute group hug. I felt really awkward just standing outside the circle.
"Who's this?" I heard one of them ask, nodding towards me.
"That's my friend, Aoife." Ashton introduced me.
"Hey there!" The same boy hugged me confidently.
I giggled shyly. "Hi."
"I'm Michael." He grinned.
He was probably the same height as Ashton, if not a couple of inches taller. He had light brown hair with a blonde streak going through his fringe. It covered his right eye, but the exposed eye on his left side was the most amazing shade of green. He was ridiculously good looking.
"My turn." Another boy pushed him aside. "I'm Calum. Calum Hood." He smirked, hugging me even tighter than Michael did.
His skin was perfectly tanned, and he had gorgeous chocolate brown eyes. They reminded me of Matt's a bit, but Calum's were actually nicer. His hair was black and quiffed slightly... and his lips. Damn.
The last boy coughed loudly, signalling to Calum that it was his turn.
I looked up at him. He was definitely the tallest out of the boys, maybe 6 ft something? I wasn't really sure, and to be honest, his height was the last thing on my mind. His blonde hair was flat against his head; something I always found really cute on a guy. His cheeks were tinted pink as he looked down at the ground. You could tell he was extremely shy.
Just when I was about to say hello, his eyes glanced up and met mine. My words got stuck in my throat as I felt the butterflies in my stomach return. He smiled, lighting up his baby blue eyes. I searched my vocabulary for a word to describe him; but none were good enough.
"Hey, I'm Luke." He offered his hand for me to shake.
"H-Hi." I stuttered, shaking his out-stretched hand once.
Of course I already knew their names, being a fan and everything, but I didn't want them to know that. They'd probably run a mile if they ever saw my secret fangirl side.
I smiled over at Ashton but he just looked away and walked over to Calum's side.
Well that was weird.
Ashton's P.O.V.
What. The. Fuck.
I know Aoife too well, and the look on her face right now tells me that she's absolutely smitten with Luke.
I knew I wasn't good enough for her.
Calum's P.O.V.
I looked over at Ashton for a brief second, I don't even know why, I just kind of did. But I really wish that I hadn't. His chirpy smile had been replaced with a frown, and his bottom lip was quivering slightly. And- wait. Are those tears? Is he crying?
Oh no, please don't.
"I'll get us some drinks." He quickly said, leaving the room before anyone else noticed.
Like the awesome friend I am, I followed him.
"What's up?" I asked once I found him in the kitchen, pouring out five glasses of orange squash.
"Hay fever." He lied. Oh boy.
"You're the worst liar ever, Ash. Seriously, what's wrong?" I pressed the subject. I wasn't leaving the room till I had an answer.
"Nothing, god dammit." He suddenly snapped, picking up the tray of drinks. "Get out of my way."
"You need to chill out, dude."
"If you're going to lecture me then get the fuck out of my house." What is up with him? I've never seen him in such a crappy mood. Plus he was completely fine when we got here...
"I'm sorry. I'll drop it, okay?" I really didn't want to fall out with him over nothing.
"Okay." He stepped past me and we both walked back to the garage in silence.
Aoife's P.O.V.
"Thanks." I smiled sweetly as Ashton handed me my drink.
"No problem." He smiled back this time, but it didn't reach his eyes.
"Are you okay?" I whispered so that the others didn't hear.
He nodded and sat down next to me. I didn't believe him but I knew it was a bad idea to press him about it.
"So lads-" Michael started. I coughed and pointed towards myself, "-and lady. What song should we sing?"
"Gotta Get Out!" Luke suddenly came alive.
"We always sing that." Ashton complained.
Luke shot him a death glare.
"Out Of My Limit?" Calum suggested.
"Nah, I don't feel like that one today." Michael furrowed his eyebrows, trying to think of a song.
"I actually- um- I wrote a song the other day." Ashton announced, running his hand through his curly locks.
"Really?" We all chorused, looking at him expectantly.
"Yeah- well- it's not that great. Pretty shit actually. Just forget it."
"No wait, I wanna hear it." I said.
He looked unsure at first, but I gave him an encouraging smile which I think boosted his confidence. He pulled a folded sheet of paper out of his jacket pocket, taking a deep breath before speaking.
"This is Heartbreak Girl... I wrote it about someone who's really close to me and I think once she hears it she'll know- "
"Just sing it already!" Luke demanded impatiently, interupting him. I giggled at his eagerness, earning a wink from him.
I felt Ashton tense up beside me.
"You know what-" He stood up "-I won't bother. Practice without a drummer today guys." He muttered, storming out of the garage, leaving us all with our mouths hanging open.
