Ashton's P.O.V.
I had no idea where I was, or what I was even doing. All I knew was that my feet were moving as fast as they could and I was putting as much distance between me and the others as possible. I really hope they don't follow me. Especially Luke. What the fuck is he playing at? Hitting on Aoife the second he see's her - not that I can blame him, because she's absolutely gorgeous - but still, he's supposed to be one of my best friends. Does he not realise how I feel about her? Maybe he thinks we really are just friends... Shit. What's wrong with me?
I spotted a bench underneath a huge tree in the distance, so I walked over to it calmly and sat down. The baby pink blossom fell from its branches, getting caught in the slight breeze. It swirled magically around my head, helping me to think clearly. I was extremely out of breath from all the running. But I wasn't just physically tired, I was mentally exhausted too. How long can I keep up the 'best friends' act? It gets harder and harder every single day and I really doubt whether or not my heart can take it. If only she knew how I felt... Would she reject me? Turn against me? Run back to Matt? I don't have answers to any of these damn questions because I'm too much of a wimp to come clean. She just deserves to be happy and-
"Ashton?" A familiar voice laced with concern called from behind me.
I turned around to be met with a comforting pair of green eyes.
"Michael?" My voice sounded shaky and uncertain. I wanted to apologise for my behaviour but I honestly couldn't get the words out.
"What happened back there, mate? We're all kinda worried..." He sat down beside me.
"Nothing, it's just been one of those days." I lied. I suck at lying.
"Yeah right. It's Luke, isn't it? You're pissed off that he was flirting with Aoife." He stated simply.
I nodded in reply.
"Why though? I thought she was just your friend..."
"She is." I snapped angrily. Ashton, fucking get a grip.
"Then why are you so mad? Do you, you know, like her?" His face was determined and with each word his eyes bored deeper into mine. He could read me like a book; and he knew it.
I contemplated lying again. But I couldn't keep this to myself any longer. And if there's anyone I can trust with this secret, it's Michael.
"Yes. I like her." I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders as I spoke. It felt amazing to finally say the words out loud.
"I fucking knew it." He punched my shoulder lightly, chuckling to himself.
"But you won't tell her, right?" He shook his head, still smiling.
"Nah, I'll keep it to myself." He frowned slightly. "Do you think she feels the same way?"
"Doesn't seem like it." All the happiness in me vanished and I felt like I was right back to where I started. "I think she likes Luke."
"Well then, I guess we have to change that." He grinned mischievously.
I recognised that face. Michael was the master of plotting and scheming. Usually it's all light hearted, but I had a feeling it would be different this time. "How?" I asked cautiously.
"Leave it to me." He patted my shoulder.
Oh God.
