Aoife's P.O.V.
My head pounded and the ground beneath me shook as the loud music bounced off the walls in the sleazy club Matt had dragged me to. I was surprised the security guards let me in; considering I was quite clearly under-aged.
"This is awesome, right?" Matt shouted over the music.
No, it wasn't. "Yeah."
"Are you having a good time?"
No, I'm not. "Absolutely."
"See! I told you you'd love it. You really needed to get out of that shoe box you call a flat." He took a swig from his beer bottle.
"I was going to get out. Ashton invited me to the cinema but you insisted-"
"Can we not talk about Ashton for once?" He rolled his eyes.
"He's my best friend, Matt." I replied evenly.
"Yeah, I know, but I'm your boyfriend. I'm more important."
I opened my eyes slowly; giving my brain time to process where I was. This wasn't my bed, nor was it my bedroom... yet something felt strangely familiar about the sheets I was lying beneath. My heart sank when I realised what that familiar feeling was.
Fear.
Panic.
Terror.
I hurriedly untangled myself from the sheets and flung my legs over the side of the bed. An aching feeling shot through my entire body; and I looked down cautiously to identify the source of the pain.
"Shit." I cursed under my breath when my eyes landed on the blue and purple blotches covering my lower half.
I was stripped completely; leaving me in just my underwear. I felt my cheeks burning at the humiliation. That sick bastard had undressed me while I was unconscious.
The thought of Matt had me jumping to my feet in an instant. I had to get out of here. I wasn't sure how; I just knew that I had to leave. Nothing good ever happens in this place.
I scanned the room quickly and located my clothes in a heap on the floor. Yes!
The rush to get dressed was evident as my blood-stained shirt ended up going on backwards and my leggings were inside-out, but honestly, I couldn't have cared less.
I made my way to the bedroom door and opened it slightly. I took a quick peak out and found nothing sinister-looking ahead of me.
Or so I thought.
"Oh good, you're awake." Matt's menacing tone sounded from the staircase. I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.
Seconds later his intimidating frame became visible. I stood as still as a statue as he approached me casually.
It was too late to run now. Even if I tried, he was blocking my path. There was no escape.
I was trapped.
He tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and I flinched away from his grasp.
"Don't move a muscle." He said sternly.
He titled my chin up and turned my head to the left slightly. "Beat you pretty bad, didn't I?" He smiled proudly while examining one of the many bruises he had left on my skin.
"You're disgusting." I breathed unsteadily.
He grabbed my wrist harshly and yanked me down two flights of stairs; pulling me into the basement. My calm demeanor vanished within a second and the fear bubbled up inside me once again. I wouldn't let my features show it, though. He does not get to win. Not this time.
"Sit." He ordered; practically throwing me onto the cold stone floor.
"Now, me and you have a lot of catching up to do." He carried over the wooden chair from the corner and plonked himself on it.
"We do?" I raised my eyebrows. I knew the confident facade I was trying to pull off wouldn't last for long; but I refused to break down in front of him again.
"Of course. It's been a long time since we've spoken as friends. I've missed it." He smiled sadly.
I scoffed. "Yeah right."
"It's true. I often think about the first time we met." He leaned forward; his eyes boring further into mine as he did so. "Do you remember that day?"
I sighed. "How could I forget?"
"Um, excuse me?" I felt a light tap on my shoulder; pulling me from my thoughts.
I turned around to see an extremely tall and handsome boy standing before me. He had gorgeous brown eyes that twinkled slightly in the Australian sunlight; and his smile was dazzling.
"Can I help you?" I asked politely.
"Well, actually, I think I could help you." He said in a playful tone, fetching a small piece of paper from his back pocket and thrusting it into my hand.
I unfolded it and couldn't help but grin when I saw a phone number scribbled across it.
"Is this your not-so-subtle way of asking me out?" I giggled.
"Subtle isn't really one of my strong points." He winked. "But to answer your question; yes."
"Well... I suppose I could spare you an hour or two of my time." I smiled cheekily.
"I was hoping you'd say that. What's your name, beautiful?" He extended his hand out to me.
"Aoife." I replied sweetly, shaking his hand.
"Lovely to meet you, Aoife. I'm Matt."
