Right after dinner Daddy Delfin invited Gerald to have a drink with him. Nagulat man ay hindi n’ya ito pinahalata… kahit kay Sarah. He acted cool and calm.
“I hope you drink wine,” Daddy Delfin said.
“Yes sir.”
The older man poured Gerald a drink and sat down across from him. “So, how long have you and my daughter been dating again?”
“4 months po.”
“And everything okay so far?”
“I believe so, sir.”
“You haven’t made her cry or anything like that, right?”
“Of course not, sir. I try hard everyday to make her happy. I wouldn’t want to hurt her.”
“That’s good to know. Siguro naman alam mo how hurt she was with the passing of Luis.”
“Alam ko po ‘yun.”
“She was so brokenhearted.”
“Nasabi nga po sa akin ni Angel how hurt she was with what happened to Luis.”
“No… she was devastated. It broke my heart, too. But seeing her now, with those smiling eyes, makes me want to say thank you to you.”
“Oh sir… you don’t really have to.”
“But I want to. Hijo, hindi mo alam kung gaano ko katagal hinintay na bumalik ang dating saya sa mga mata n’ya. Everyday I pray for her. And my prayers were answered when you came in to the picture. You know, I had a hard time accepting Luis at first. I wanted to make sure first that he was everything that I would want for my daughter. Pero ngayon, dahil nakikita ko kung gaano kasaya ang anak ko, I don’t really care anymore. I trust my daughter. And if you are the cause of that happiness, wala na akong masasabi. Kaya salamat sa ‘yo at kay Gaile. My family owes you a lot.”
“You don’t owe us anything, sir. I love your daughter so much. All I want to do is make her happy.”
