The Family Day was an annual thing in the school where families of the students – dads, moms, guardians and siblings – get to play games like obstacle relay, volleyball and basketball together with the students. Each level would have to put together one team for each game comprised of students, parents and faculty.

When Gerald and Gaile arrived in school for the event, Sarah was already busy going around that they didn’t see each until it was assembly time. She had begged him the previous night to let her go to school on her own as she needed to be there really early and she didn’t want to bother him at that time yet.

Each level had a designated area in the covered court where they will come together so that their attendance can be checked. For the 3rd Year level, Sarah was tasked to check the attendance. As agreed upon, they acted coolly – smiled at each other as if it was just their first time to meet each other and talked to each other casually. But once in a while Sarah would receive text messages from him:

Message 1: I love you! Sobrang nagpipigil po ako…

Message 2: Why do you have to look so beautiful today? Sobrang nagpipigil pa rin po ako…

Message 3: Love, bakit parang maikli yata ‘yung shorts mo? You should’ve just worn jogging pants or leggings.

Message 4: I’m inspired to play because I know you’re watching. Now, watch the master do his thing :)…

Message 5: Nagpipigil pa rin ng sobra….

Message 6: I love you!

Message 7: Who are you eating lunch with? Sana we could just sit near each other. I love you and I miss you, Love!

Sa halos lahat ng laro ay magkakasama ang buong 3rd Year group. They cheered each other on – when it was the men’s game, the ladies cheered and vice versa. The group felt suddenly attached to each other that they even decided to have lunch together.

The second half of the day was for championship games. The women got to the finals of the volleyball event but had to settle for 2nd place. The final event for them was the men’s basketball, where they will also be playing for the championship.

The men huddled up after their warm-up while the ladies settled on the bleachers just behind the team’s bench. When the referee blew his whistle signaling the start of the game, the first five went to center court. As Gerald took his post, he looked back at the bleachers and searched for her. Sarah made eye contact him and secretly gave him a thumbs-up sign. This made him smile.
