"Why won't you battle?" I confronted Layla as she shivered in the corner.
"I... I can't do it... Snivy won't listen to me. She almost jumped off the boat to get away..." Layla whispered, and I only almost heard it all. For a second I felt sorry for her, then I realised how weak a trainer she must be.
"Let's see this Snivy." I said, sitting in front of Layla as she realised Snivy. Snivy stood bravely to me and then went lazy.
"You can tell she was raised by Ash, can't you. It only ever obeys him." Layla said, and she was close to tears. I rolled my eyes. Layla had a long way to go if she was ever going to be my rival.
"Teach the Pokemon you're in charge here. Ash lets his Pokemon get lazy, and then trust that they are ready when they are needed. You need to make sure that the Pokemon won't disobey you." I said, pushing myself up and leaving.
"Wait! Paul... Can you help me? I wouldn't know what to do..." Layla called after me, but I just simply ignored her and waved bye. She was really weak, but for some reason, I couldn't quiet leave. Layla looked back at Snivy, who yawned.
"Sni."
"Snivy... Return." Layla said, and she watched as I continued to walk away, and then I watched from a distance.
"Have a crush, do we." Harley said behind her, and Layla turned around.
"What do you want? I appreciate you paying, but why were you so rude about me in front of Drew and May? Do you realise how much I look up to them? Ash said they were the best coordinators. I looked up to you too..." Layla said, and she managed to send Harley on a guilt trip. Not many people can do that to him, according to the news.
"I'm sorry. I was showing off. I shouldn't of; you had been through a hard time." Harley replied, and May and Drew rolled their eyes behind Layla.
"Don't believe a word he says Layla. He lies all the time to us." May say, running up to Layla. Harley gasped in annoyance before storming off.
"Is... That a rose?" Layla asked May, eyes wide. May was indeed holding a rose in her hand, and when it was mentioned she blushed.
"Ah... Yea. It was a gift..." May stuttered and she smiled at the young trainer.
"All aboard. We will be arriving at Kanto soon. Make sure that you are ready to leave." The voice called out, and the group got ready.
-After Leaving the Ship-
"You know Layla. You should battle someone." May said and Layla sighed. She looked around at everyone else, and everyone except Drew and I nodded. To be honest, I didn't know if she would ever be a good trainer.
"OK. I'll battle... Paul." Everyone was shocked by Layla's decision, especially me. If she was Ash's friend, she would never of chosen me.
"He might not..." Dawn started and I just shrugged.
"Why not." I said and grabbed a Pokeball, but I knew I would regret it when she starts crying.
"Really?" Layla gasped and she ran over to a place where they can battle.
"This is a one on one battle, blah blah blah." May said and she sat next to Drew as they watched the battle start.
"Snivy, Let's get going!" Layla yelled, releasing Snivy, and she covered her eyes worried that she would see Snivy running from the battle, but when she looked at her, she was ready.
"Torterra!" I called out realising Torterra.
"Eeek! A full evolved Pokemon..." Layla squealed in fear. And Snivy sighed.
"Layla, the first thing in a battle is not to be scared, or if you are, don't show it. It makes the trainer look weak, so the Pokemon stop listening." I called to her and Layla nodded.
"Who's going to start?" Dawn asked and I pointed to Layla.
