Tyler's Battle

Chapter 2 - Bad News

Tyler and Jody followed Mike into the office and through to the quiet room. May Li followed closing the door behind her.

Sit down Tyler said Mike looking uncomfortable.

Tyler sat on the sofa with Jody perched next to him on arm of the sofa. Mike sat down opposite, wringing his hands. He didn't seem to know what to say

I'm so sorry Tyler. I have some bad news

What do you mean?

 It's your mum. She's passed away.

What, no, your lying. I spoke to her this morning.

I'm sorry Tyler. That was the police, a neighbour found her an hour ago. The paramedics were called but it was too late. She had taken too many pills.

But I don't understand, when I spoke to her earlier she seemed OK. And now your saying shes dead

I know it's hard to take in. It's a shock to everyone. She was clearly more sick than anyone realised and you know with her bipolar disorder how quickly her moods could change.

She wanted to meet me today. Take me out for pizza and I said no. If I had said yes she would still be here.

Tyler you can't think like that. Replied May Li moving over and putting an arm round him

Tyler shrugged off her arm

Tyler she wasn't well. She hadnt been for years. There's nothing you could have done added Jody putting her hand on his.

Something erupted in Tyler. His emotions came flooding to the surface, tears streaming he stormed from the room

Tyler! Exclaimed Jody as he brushed past almost knocking her off the sofa arm

Jody sprung up to follow but Mike grabbed her by the arm

Give him some space Jody. It's a lot to take in.

Jody sank back onto the sofa.

Are you alright Jody asked may Li as she put an arm round her gave her a quick squeeze. Tylers going to need a friend like you more than ever but give him some time to take in the news.

I guess. She replied meekly

Come on, lets finish dinner! Exclaimed Mike glancing at his watch.

Jody could barely eat a thing, she kept staring at Tyler's empty place at the table. After a couple of mouthfuls she pushed the plate away and got up from the table. She muttered an excuse and left the kitchen. She didn't care what anyone said she wanted to make sure Tyler was alright.
