Jody kept her distance for the next couple of weeks. She found excuses to spend time away from Tyler and when she did hang out with him she fought against the urge to just fall into that comfortable zone with him, fighting against that warm fuzziness she felt when she was with him. He would be leaving soon enough, she couldn't get too comfortable, it would only make the pain worse when she had to say goodbye.
Then one Saturday morning Tyler said something that took Jody completely by surprise. Jodes, wanna come to the park with me to see my dad?
Nah, it's alright, I'm sure you two just wanna spend some family time together
No, Dad said to invite you, he wanted to see you.
Really?
Yeah, he wants to get know me, so that means getting to know my friends as well
OK I guess I'll come
May Li dropped them at the park, she had some errands to run and arranged to pick them up in a couple of hours.
Jody and Tyler walked over to the playground where Sebastian was already climbing up the climbing frame.
Hi Jody, nice to meet you again said Tyler's dad smiling
Hi replied Jody awkwardly
Tyler introduced her to Joanne and Sophie
They stood watching Sebastian playing but Jody couldn't help glance at Tyler and his dad in deep conversation. Suddenly she felt like an outsider, Tyler and his dad were chatting away and Joanne had rushed off, with Sophie in the buggy, to comfort Sebastian who had fallen over. She wished she had never come today, she didn't belong here. This was a family but not her family.
