max

my phone buzzed from my desk. i glanced up from my spot in my chair and slowly reached for it. i was doing my midwinter holiday reading that was due when we returned to school. it was nearing the end of holiday and i wasn't even close to done with the book.
my phone screen illuminated at my face as i flipped it around and saw that ophelia was trying to facetime me. i clicked accept and propped the phone up beside the chair so she could see.
"hey max!" she exclaims when her face appears
"hey ophelia" i say and smile
seeing her smile and face always warms my heart. she could make any mood brighter no matter what the situation was.
"how are you?" she asks
"i'm reading." i say
she laughs which makes me take offense
"what?" i say
"that's the first time in awhile i've heard that come out of your mouth." she says
"are you trying to say i don't read?" i say taking offense
"sort of.." she says and laughs again
i roll my eyes
"well it's for school." i say
she nods
"that's always fun." she says and smirks
"tell me about it." i say
"so um..i have some news.." ophelia says
i look up at screen because i know that tone of voice. she uses it whenever she has bad or sad news to say.
"what?" i ask getting concerned
"we're moving.." she says
"you are? where?" i ask
"my dad got a new job offer and it's really hard to resist..it's in the states.." she says
"you're moving to the states?" i ask
she nods
my mouth kinda drops open a little. of course i haven't seen ophelia since the incident and we moved away but i was hoping i could see her again but now she was moving to the states and that's even further away.
"wow..that's far away.." i say
"i know..and i know we were thinking on maybe seeing each other soon but now that's kind of..out of the question since i'm moving to the states and you don't visit a lot.." she says
i sigh
"we'll meet one day. i promise. right now i'm happy for your dad and i'm sure you'll do great in the states." i say and smile
"really? thanks max. i thought you'd be upset like i was but thanks. and you promise we'll see each other some day?" she asks
"i promise." i say and hold up my pinky finger
she does the same and a beautiful wide smile spreads across her face.
"what state are you moving to?" i ask
"georgia, somewhere near the coast i think.." ophelia says
i nod
"you'll do amazing." i say
"i hope so. i've never been to the states before." she says
"schooling is sort of different but you'll get adjusted just fine." i say
she smiles
"i'll miss you." she says
"i'll miss you too." i say

ophelia is moving! do you think her and max will ever reunite?
idk but my chapters seem sort of choppy so i apologize
