Thank you all for the votes. Quite a few of you made some good points about making Kiara queen instead of Kion being King so I'm gonna make Kiara queen at the end of this story. Enjoy today's chapter (enough there's not too much action).

Kion and Fuli had managed to convince Kiara and Zuri to leave the Pridelands with them to protect their cubs, Imani, Nguvu and Moyo. Kiara didn't want to leave her friends and family behind but she knew if she did, she would be putting Imani's life in danger. The rest of the lion guard and Kovu stayed at the lair. The small group finally makes it to the leopard leap to rest and prepare for the battle approaching.

Many of the animals were fearful of the approaching battle, others were cheering and practicing their battle cries. Fuli and the others had to admit that it was very brave of all these animals to risk their lives for the Pridelands. Fuli, Kiara and Zuri find Badili and Aina and the leopards escort the lions to the den. Fuli notices that Kion isn't with them so she goes to look for him.

Kion walked to the river that wasn't too far away from the leap. He leans down to take a drink but stops when he sees half of his reflection missing.

"I'll never understand what the deal is with reflections." He mumbles.

Kion splashes the water to make his reflection go away.

"What's the deal with these stupid reflections?" Asks a voice.

"That's exactly what I said when I was a cub. I didn't understand then, but I understand now." Says another voice.

"Who's there?" Asks Kion whipping his head around to find the source of the voices.

He looks down at the river and sees Fuli and Kiara talking.

"What's going on?" Asks Kion, confused and afraid.

He watches as the reflections change. He soon realised that he was seeing parts of Fuli's journey of finding him.

"Why do you think she came looking for you?" Asks a voice.

Kion looks up at the sky and he sees Mufasa's spirit looking at him.

"Grandfather?" Asks Kion, still trying to believe it was his grandfather he was talking to.

It has been years since they've talked.

"Why do you think Fuli came looking for you?" Mufasa repeats.

"To take back the Pridelands, of course." Kion answers.

"Is that the only reason?" Asks Mufasa.

"What other reason is there?"

"Oh Kion, have you ever listened to her or remembered your time as a cub?"

"Yes grandfather but could you please stop talking in riddles?"

"A war is coming, Kion. You need to trust your instincts and your friends. The roar of the elders might not even be enough to defeat Scar."

"I understand."

"Good. Last words of advice: stay alive and trust your instincts."

Kion nods. "Thank grandfather."

Mufasa's spirit disappears.

Kion wasn't sure what his grandfather meant by 'is that the only reason?'.

'Fuli only came after me to take back the Pridelands. That's the only reason there is, right?' Kion asks himself.

Kion sighs and walks along the riverbank.

Kion:
Nature, nurture heaven and home
Sum of all, and by them, driven
To conquer every mountain shown
But I've never crossed the river
Braved the forests, braved the stone
Braved the icy winds and fire
Braved and beat them on my own
Yet I'm helpless by the river
Angel, angel, what have I done?
I've faced the quakes, the wind, the fire
I've conquered country, crown, and throne
Why can't I cross this river?
Angel, angel, what have I done?
I've faced the quakes, the wind, the fire
I've conquered country, crown, and throne
Why can't I cross this river?
Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river
It'll take a lot more than words and guns
A whole lot more than riches and muscle
The hands of the many must join as one
And together we'll cross the river
It'll take a lot more than words and guns
A whole lot more than riches and muscle
The hands of the many must join as one
And together we'll cross the river
Nature, nurture heaven and home
It'll take a lot more than words and guns
Sum of all, and by them, driven
A whole lot more than riches and muscle
To conquer every mountain shown
The hands of the many must join as one
And together we'll cross the river
Braved the forests, braved the stone
It'll take a lot more than words and guns
Braved the icy winds and fire
A whole lot more than riches and muscle
Braved and beat them on my own
The hands of the many must join as one
And together we'll cross the river
And together we'll cross the river
And together we'll cross the river
Nature, nurture heaven and home
And together we'll cross the river
And together we'll cross the river
Nature, nurture heaven and home
And together we'll cross the river
And together we'll cross the river

As Kion sang, he didn't notice Fuli listening to his song. When Kion finishes his song, she approaches him.

"I haven't heard you sing in years." She says, making Kion jump.

"Fuli?! How much did you hear?" Kion asks.

"Just the last bit." Fuli answers. "Is everything ok?"

"I just talked with my grandfather. I haven't spoken to him in years." Kion replies, sadly folding his ears.

Fuli gives him a comforting nuzzle which he returns.

"You nervous for the fight?" Asks Kion.

"Honestly, yes. Last time we lost so many lives and Scar won. I hope this time he loses." Fuli answers.

"All we can do is do our best." Kion replies.

Fuli nods. "I've been talking to Aina and Badili. They think it's best we leave tomorrow."

"Ok, we should get some rest while we still can."

They walk back to the den to try and get some rest for the approaching war.

The time grows near...
