I sat in the restaurant's building, waiting for Jack to turn up. I had no idea whether the night would be wonderful or simply terrible, though, because a few days ago I had rejected his marriage proposal.
"Elsa?" a familiar voice asked, and I looked around to see my boyfriend. "You actually came?"
"Of course I did! I'd never break a promise I made to you," I told him, and he came over to sit opposite me.
He eyed my sparkling white dress, and said, "You look beautiful tonight. I love your dress, and the flower in your hair."
"You say I am your flower," I smiled, "And you also look very nice. I love your navy suit, it is perfect for the occasion."
"I thought it would be... So, what would you like to eat?"
"I don't mind, a surprise?" I giggled, and he nodded.
"Ok, I'll order the same meal for the both of us... I hope you like my choice..."
"I'm sure I will, we have very similar tastes!" He nodded once again, and went off to order a meal for the both of us. When he came back, I took the chance to tell him again that I didn't mean to hurt him when I had admitted that I didn't want to marry him. "I don't want to ruin the date, so can I say again that I love you so much? Even though I told you that I didn't know what I wanted with my life yet?"
He shrugged, and I looked down, feeling that we would never be the same again. "I suppose..."
I was about to reply, when the waitress brought too perfectly presented meals out to us and said, "I hope you enjoy your evening."
She winked at us, and I nodded. "Thank you, I'm sure we will!" She went away, and romantic music played in the background as we ate.
Once we had finished the delicious meal, I told Jack that I had loved the meal that he had given me, and that it was probably now my favourite main course, hoping to lift his spirits. He replied, saying, "Thanks, but I hope you still have room for the dessert! How about the luxury chocolate gateau, with vanilla ice cream and strawberries?"
I smiled, "That sounds amazing, I would love to have some!"
The desserts arrived after a few minutes, and the cold cream, cake and berries were actually a beautiful mixture. I winked at the waitress who had brought out both of our courses, and at that moment, the music turned louder and I took a small velvet box out of my bag, carefully, to avoid him seeing the little gift.
I stood up and looked around at the other guests, who were now watching us intently. I nodded at them, to put them out of their misery, and their thoughtful expressions turned to grins as I knelt down beside Jack. He looked confused as I spoke. "I love you, and I don't want to be without you. I have thought these past few days about what you said, and I realised that I knew the one thing that I wanted in life! Jack Frost, will you take me, Elsa Oldenburg, to be your fiancee? Will you marry me?"
His face lit up and he stood up, and glanced at the other customers, as they watched him with hope written across their faces, "Yes, of course, Elsa, I would be delighted to marry you!" He hugged me and we kissed, and I felt so happy - my life was now complete.
