THE DAYS in Avonlea started getting longer, the nights shorter, the weather warmer and the trees greener. Anne adored watching flowers , especially the ones from the cherry tree near her room. She always picked some and gifted them to her loved ones, even went to the Blythe household to surprise Lily. And today is no exception.
"Good day, dear Sebastian. May I enter your lovely mansion to deliver these fresh herbs to my heart Lily, from my heart?" was the first thing Sebastian heard that morning. Because he agreed to come to Avonlea with Gilbert, the boy offered him to stay at his home while they looked for other houses the dark skinned man could stay in. Bash was very grateful and often helped the two kids with homework and housework.
"Hello, Cordelia dearest. Please, be my guest." the man smiled and bowed while opening the door for the redhead girl to come in.
"Why thank you." Anne chuckled, enjoying Sebastian's part in her play pretend. When she entered the house, her eyes scanned the room for the dark haired girl, but sadly didn't find her.
"Hey, do you happen to know where Lillian is?" Anne turned to face the man, who pointed towards upstairs.
"They're still sleeping. We were up too late last night because we had to take care of the horse. It wasn't feeling too well these past few days." Sebastian said before turning around and entering the kitchen.
"Poor fella." Anne sighed to herself, mentally reminding herself to go check up on the horse later, before climbing up the stairs, careful not to make any noise. When she came to the door, she slowly opened them just enough to peek through.
And it was true, in their shared room were Lily, who was sleeping on the bed, her legs and arms sprawled over the matress like a starfish, and her hair falling off the side of the bed. Anne chuckled before opening the door fully, with much more force. Which caused the door to hit something hard, making a loud smacking noise.
"Ow!"
"Oh, God! I'm so,so sorry!" Anne said, turning around and spotting Gilbert lying on a blanket that was on the ground, completely covered in sheets, but she could still see him hold his head underneath.
"Anne?" he groggily said, taking the sheets from his head and turning to look at the redhead. "What are you doing here so early?"
"I came to bring these flowers to Lily. And for your information, it's afternoon." Anne said while offering Gilbert a hand for him to get up, which he accepted.
"Woah, afternoon? I didn't even realize. Must've slept in. My horse is very-"
"Sick these days. I know. Sebastian told me. I'm really sorry. I hope it'll get better." the redhead patted the boy's shoulder before turning around to sit on the bed, next to Lily.
Gilbert just thanked her before rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. Just as he was about to leave the room, he changed his mind and instead turned to Anne who was still sitting on the bed, staring at Lily.
"Hey, Anne?"
"Yep?" the redhead said, fixing her braids.
"Where's Margaret?" the boy asked, scratching the back of his head.
"Oh, Marilla didn't tell you?"
.
.
."Ouch, ouch ,ouch! Marilla, take it easy, woman!" Margaret groaned as Marilla wrapped her injured, swollen arm with a piece of an old shirt dipped in some alcoholic beverage that smelt awful.
"Well you should've thought about your actions prior, young lady! You're lucky I'm even taking care of you." the woman said as she finally finished tying the last piece of clothing.
"I already told you, it wasn't my fault!"
"Snow? Snow! Snow, where are you!" Margaret yelled out, her hands around her mouth, as she searched for her beloved feline all around the house.
She fell asleep the night before with the cat, but there was no sign of the white fluff anywhere. Not even an meow. So Margaret decided she would go look for her.
And so she found her, sitting on a cherry tree branch, right next to Anne's window. And being the smart independent woman she is, Margaret decided to climb out the window and retrieve her kitty. That is, untill she slipped and fell, landing on her arm and fracturing it. It would've broke if it wasn't for the hay that was below the window. Thank God Jerry doesn't do his chores right.
"Yeah, yeah. It was the cat." Marilla rolled her eyes, giving the redhead, who was holding the feline in her good hand, a stare.
"Just be more careful next time." she continued before exiting the room.
"You're a naughty kitty." Margaret whispered to the cat, who just snuggled closer to the girl.
Margaret sat there for a while before someone stormed through the door, making her jump and yelp in surprise.
"Margaret dearest! Someone came to see you!" Anne yelled at the top of her lungs before spotting the girl sitting on the stairs.
"Ah, there she is." she continued, pointing towards the stairs. Margaret stood up, hugging the cat close to her chest before turning around to face Anne.
"Anne, you scared me!" the girl started before spotting a dark haired boy and girl behind her.
"Gilbert?"she asked, surprised. "And... Lily?" smiling, she approached the pair, giving Lily a small hug.
"Anne told me you hurt your arm, s-so I just came to check if you were alright." the boy said, giving her a side hug, which she returned.
"Awe, look at you, all lovey dovey. I wish someone could look at me like that." Anne said, turning to face Lily who just smiled and shrugged, making Anne sigh.
"Well, we best be going. Wouldn't want to bother you two lovebirds!" Anne said before taking Lily's hand and running upstairs.
"Oh, that Anne. She doesn't have a filter." Margaret said, shaking her head before turning her head towards Gilbert and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"I don't mind. So, are you going to tell me how that happened or.." he said, pointing towards her bandaged arm, making her chuckle.
"Oh, it's quite a story alright!" she started, taking his hand in hers and guiding him towards the living room.
"Ah, young love. It's so wonderful." Marilla watched them laugh and talk from the kitchen, remembering the days when she was just a girl in love. She was happy the two got along, but her thoughts were suddenly interrupted when Jerry walked into the kitchen.
As soon as the boy spotted the two, he started fake gagging "Ew,gross!"
But he was cut short when Marilla smacked him across the head.
"Oh, shush you boy! When you find a nice gal for yourself, we'll see if you'll act like that!"
"Alright, alright, no need to make this into a life lesson!" the boy shrugged, rubbing the spot where Marilla hit him.
"Don't you talk to me like that, young man! In fact, when I was your age...."
"No! No no no no no!" the boy said before storming out of the door, leaving Marilla to laugh.
"Kids..."
