When we two parted
   In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
   To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
   Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
   Sorrow to this.

The dew of the morning
   Sunk chill on my brow—
It felt like the warning
   Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
   And light is thy fame;
I hear thy name spoken,
   And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,
   A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o'er me—
   Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee,
   Who knew thee too well—
Long, long shall I rue thee,
   Too deeply to tell.

In secret we met—
   In silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,
   Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
   After long years,
How should I greet thee?—
   With silence and tears.

"Did you pack your sweater?"

"Yeah."

"Your toothbrush? Umbrella? Underwear?"

"I got everything, Lily. Don't worry."

"Alright." the brunette sighed, finally plopping down onto her bed. "I just don't want you to forget something important." the girl justified her behaviour as Gilbert offered her a small smile, along with a sigh. The two were in their room, Gilbert was packing for his trip to London as Lily supervised, perched up on the bed, occassionally glancing over the boy's shoulder.

Gilbert put the last sweater in his large suitcase before slamming it shut, closing it firmly with a belt that was wrapped around it. After a moment of silence, he sighed again. "I feel like I'm already forgetting the most important thing." he confessed, running a hand over his face. It was now Lily's turn to sigh. "I know she's angry, but..." he started, suddenly stopping as he noticed the annoyed look on the girl's face. He raised an eyebrow. "Is everything alright?" he asked.

The girl's expression changed. "Yeah." she replied, her nails suddenly becoming more interesting as she raised her hand up to look at them. "It's just... Do you really think you two will last? I mean... I have a feeling that Margaret doesn't understand how important this is for you." Lily finally said, the question taking Gilbert by surprise, as he didn't expect it to come out of Lily's lips. His eyebrows furrowed. "What makes you say that?" he asked, genuinely interested. Lily opened her mouth to respond, but quickly closed them shut. She shook her head, her feet touching the ground as she stood up from where she was sitting. "Nothing. Just... think about it." was what she said, patting him on the back before exiting the room.
