Shocking News and God Bless Cham-P

My second class' lecture went on normally and it ended without receiving any homework. I walked to my locker and exchanged my books. I continued on to class when I was suddenly intercepted by Asahina. She seemed ecstatic. 

Oh boy...

"Kate, did you here the big news?!" She yelled. 

I sighed. "No, what? Am I getting saved by my internal suffering?"

"Even better! There's going to be a school dance tomorrow night! Everyone has to go with a partner!"

I choked on my own spit and coughed loudly. "That's not good news! Especially the partner part!" 

Asahina maintained her cheery mood. "I think you should try to ask Gundham!" 

I'd rather impale myself with a fork!

"Well, who are you going with?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"Oh, Sakura and I are going together! I didn't want to go with a boy." 

What a surprise...I ship it.

You know, maybe I should try and ask Gundham. It couldn't hurt. I've already made a complete idiot out of myself in front of him already. 

I huffed. "Ok fine...I'll ask him."

Asahina hugged me tightly. "Yes! Good luck!" 

And she ran off, just like that. 

I'm gonna need all the luck I can get.

My third class passed by quickly as I thought about how I should ask him. Should I be straight forward? Should I ask him if he was even interested in going? Eh, time will tell. 

I walked to lunch on shaky feet. To my dismay, Fuyuhiko and Peko weren't there. I got my food and sat down exactly across from Gundham.

"Uh...h-hi Gundham..." I greeted, even more nervous than usual. 

"Good day, mortal." He replied, focusing on opening a small bag of sunflower seeds. 

One of his hamsters crawled out of his pocket and toward me. I slowly extended my left hand flat on the table, my palm out. The hamster crawled on my hand and laid down. I smiled.

Gundham gasped. "How are you able to tame Cham-P?! No mortal would ever have the ability to wield such a power!" 

"I-I just really l-like animals..." I answered, surprised at his enthusiasm. I looked at the bag of sunflower seeds. "C-Can I feed h-him?" 

Gundham, still seeming in shock, gave me a seed and I placed it in front of Cham-P. The orange, chubby hamster ate it happily.  I watched Cham-P eat, afraid and embarrassed to look at Gundham. 

"It seems that I have underestimated you." Gundham said as Cham-P finished his seed. "How can a mortal have control of one of my Dark Devas of Destruction? From where did you learn such a trick?" 

"I-I just l-like animals, t-that's all," I repeated. "I-I'm not using any m-magic...And I-I wanted t-to ask you a q-question..." 

It's now or never...

"W-Would you l-like to g-go to the s-school dance w-with me?" 

Shit, I'm gonna die. 

Cham-P stood up and walked to Gundham, crawling up to his right shoulder. Gundham closed his eyes, as if Cham-P was actually whispering to him. After a long pause, Gundham nodded. "I see..." He opened his eyes and looked at me. "Cham-P has advised me to accept your offer. Therefore, if a well trained and powerful being such as himself thinks positively of you, there is no question that I will agree."

...God bless that hamster. 

My face grew hot. "S-So, is t-that a y-yes?" 

Gundham nodded. "I assure you, this is only to learn about your power. We are nothing more than acquaintances." He pushed his scarf over his mouth, but I could see a small blush. 

Yeah, power can mean many different things... 

I probably was blushing as well. "T-Thank you, Gundham..." 

A few minutes of silence passed as I ate some of my lunch. Gundham suddenly broke it. 

"May I have your phone number to contact you on the night of this mortal activity called a 'dance'?" 

I nodded and we exchanged numbers. My fingers were shaking as I typed his number in. The bell rang and we parted ways without a word. I internally congratulated myself as I walked to my locker and got my books. I walked to class feeling strangely giddy. 

I'm going on a date...with Gundham!
