The last class came and passed. I quickly exited the classroom and jogged to my locker. Time was of the essence in order to look the best for the dance. Passing by the gym, I noticed Chiaki and Ms. Yukizome decorating and setting up tables. I heard Ms. Yukizome's upbeat voice suggesting where Chiaki could put some pink streamers. I forgot that Chiaki was the 77th class' Representative.
I got to my locker and dumped by books inside. No homework was assigned tonight, thank god. I slung my backpack over my shoulder and raced home and ran to my room. As I was about to close my door, my phone vibrated. I pulled it out of my pocket. It was a text from Asahina.
Do you mind if I come over?
I sighed. It might be good to have some help.
Sure, I'll tell my mom. I need help anyway.
My mom, of course, said Asahina was welcome to come. Relieved, I gave the ok to Asahina.
My mom said you could.
My phone vibrated once again.
I'll be there in 15 minutes! :)
I walked over to my bathroom and looked in the mirror. I cringed at the sight of my messy hair.
This needs Jesus...
I reluctantly pulled out the hair iron and took off my glasses. I hated making myself look pretty, mostly because I wasn't naturally something good to look at. I put in some contacts so I wouldn't burn myself to death and got to work. I needed to finish before Asahina got here.
I carefully crafted some weak curls in my hair, accidentally burning my shoulder two times. A few minutes after I finished, the doorbell rang. I walked downstairs, my warm curls bouncing as I descended to the main floor.
I opened the door to find Asahina already dressed up. A look of disappointment flashed on her face.
"I'm sorry?" I apologized/asked.
"Don't worry," She said with a smile. "I'll fix this!"
A few terrible hours passed until I was deemed ready for a formal occasion.
My eyes watered as Asahina brushed mascara on my eyelashes.
I sighed. "Are you sure I really need this paint on my face?"
"Every girl puts on makeup sometime or another and this is one of those occasions!"
She removed the annoying brush and stretched my arms and legs. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. We looked at each other. Either Ogami or Gundham was behind the door. We inched towards it.
"Do you have one of those peek holes?" She asked.
I shook my head. "I'll answer it. It'll make sense because it's my house..."
Asahina ran to the bathroom and shut the door. We wanted to surprise our partner by making an entrance as if it was out of a movie. I opened my front door.
It was Ogami. She was wearing a yellow dress and her long white hair was in a braid.
I smiled. "Hi! Asahina's just finishing up!"
This sentence was our signal to come out of the bathroom.
She nodded. I could tell she was nervous.
Asahina stepped out of the bathroom, her red dress floating with every step she took. I stepped back to let the two meet.
"Sakura, you look beautiful..." Asahina said with a small blush.
"You as well," Ogami replied.
I chuckled. "Stop making me the third wheel and go. You two are too cute."
Their embarrassment was as clear as day as they walked out and towards the school.
Looks like I'm the last man standing.
I shut the door with a sigh. Now, I wait.
What is Gundham going to wear?
Probably his same old outfit.
Why did I ask him? He'll probably hate it.
I was dewling on my stupidity when the doorbell rang, nearly causing a heart attack.
Here it goes...
With shaky hands I grabbed the door handle and pulled the door open. On the other side, I saw Gundham in a grey tuxedo but still wearing his scarf and usual hairstyle.
"Greetings, mortal."
His hamsters crawled out of his pants' pockets wearing grey bowties of their own.
"H-Hi..."
I heard running from the kitchen. "Is that your date?!" It was my mom.
She met us at the doorway and narrowed her eyes at Gundham.
Oh god she's going to scare him.
"Uh, Gundham this is my m-mom."
Gundham simply nodded.
"Ok w-well I think we should g-go and n-now," I said nervously. "W-We can't be l-late!"
I quickly stepped outside and slammed the door behind me before my mom could start having her doubts.
"Are you content with walking to school?" Gundham asked as we walked down my short driveway and onto the sidewalk.
"Y-Yeah, that's fine." It was cold, but I didn't want to annoy him.
We walked on and I looked at the ground, counting each crack in the sidewalk to keep me distracted. About a minute into our walk, Gundham broke our silence.
"I have a question, mortal. Your voice always seems to be timid unless you fight with someone. Why is that?"
Of all the questions in the world to ask...
"I...I just get nervous t-talking to people...That's all. I-I'm sorry if it b-bothers you..." I answered, terrified.
"I was only curious as to why. Your reasoning is understandable."
Understandable? What did that mean?
We arrived at school and navigated our way to the gym. The loud pop music offended my ears as I was starting to discover the heavy metal genre in study hall. We approached the booth selling the dance tickets and I opened my purse to get my money when I was interrupted by Gundham's hand on my shoulder.
"I'll pay for ours."
Before I could protest his generosity he was buying the tickets for us.
For me.
He walked back to me and handed me one ticket.
"Y-You didn't have t-to pay. I-I had enough money." I said.
"Currency is nothing to me." He stated plainly. "You mortals need it to survive."
"O-Ok..." I was both confused and embarrassed.
Gundham extended his hand to me. "Are you ready?"
My hand met his gently and I felt a small blush on my cheeks. "Y-Yes..."
Here goes nothing.
