I woke with a jolt. I wasn't at home, nor was I still outside. I was in a bed room full of band posters and various instruments, but mostly guitars.
Guitars?
I sat up and looked around, the sunshine giving me light. On the nightstand next to the bed was a bowl of cereal and a note. I picked the note up and read it.
Ibuki was driving home and saw you on the sidewalk asleep. You can sleep here! -Ibuki
As if on cue, the door opened and Ibuki stepped inside, followed by Kyoko.
"Oh, thank goodness you're awake!" Ibuki trapped me into a hug. "What did Leon do to you?!"
The memories came back. My eyes watered and I started crying again. "Late...and the paper...music...book in the rain..."
Ibuki released me and Kyoko raised an eyebrow at her. "You never mentioned that Leon had something to do with this. She could have been--"
I quickly shook my head. "He was angry at me and it scared me so I ran outside...He didn't try to find me..."
Ibuki's smile dropped into frown. "He didn't look for you? You were alone and it was night time! If Ibuki didn't find you, who knows what could have happened?!"
Kyoko seemed surprised too, but she wasn't interested in school gossip. "I called your parents and told them where you were. Luckily, everyone's home phone number is listed on the school website."
"Wait, shouldn't you guys be at school now?" I asked.
"No way!" Ibuki replied. "We weren't going to just leave you here!" She handed me the cereal.
I stared sadly at it. "What am I going to do now? This is too embarrassing to even show my face in school again! Asahina is going to be so disappointed..."
"Asahina is fine." Kyoko interrupted. "She called your home phone a few minutes after we told your parents about what happened to you. They explained it. They said Asahina was glad you're alright."
I sighed. "Can you guys drive me home? My parents are still probably flipping out regardless."
Kyoko nodded and helped me walk to her car parked behind Ibuki's. We were just pulling out of Ibuki's driveway when her phone rang. She immediately answered it. "Yo? ...Yeah she's fine, we're driving her back to her house...Yeah, just don't scare her...See ya!" Ibuki hung up.
"Who was that?" I asked.
"Asahina." Ibuki replied. "She's making sure you're ok and wants to come over to your house."
I sighed. "She doesn't have to do that."
"Believe me, she will." Kyoko said while parking in front of my house.
I got out of the car and went inside. I shut the door and flopped on the couch. My brother wasn't home yet. I checked the clock, 2:44. My school wasn't going to be out until and hour at least. I heard the doorbell ring. I looked out the window. Asahina's car and a motorcycle were parked in front of my house.
I unlocked the front door and opened it.
"You've reached the house of misery--"
I was attacked into a hug. Of course, it was Asahina. "I'm so sorry Kate! I should have never made you do that!"
"And I shouldn't have pressured you," A gruff voice added. I turned my head to see Mondo. That explains the motorcycle.
"You guys don't have to apologize ...How was he at school today?"
Asahina shook her head. "Normal as every other day. He didn't look guilty or sad at all. Well, until Mondo 'talked' to him." She looked at Mondo. "Can I show her?"
He nodded. "She deserves to know."
Asahina pulled up a video on her phone. "I filmed this while Mondo was 'talking' to him." She started the video.
Asahina, holding the phone, was following Mondo at a distance that wasn't suspicious. Even just seeing his back, the way he was walking showed that he was ready to put someone in the hospital. He stepped out into the courtyard, where Leon was sitting at a table and doing something on his phone.
Just seeing Leon on a screen made me sad.
Mondo ran at Leon and pinned him to a wall. Asahina's phone's camera went closer to them.
"You bastard!" I heard Mondo yell. "You think you can just leave anyone out on the street to die?!"
"What the hell are you talking about?!" Leon screamed.
So, that's how much he didn't care?
What Leon said surprised Mondo as much as me. But if you anger Mondo, all hell will break loose. And that's exactly what happened.
Mondo punched Leon square in the jaw. I saw the camera jump slightly and heard Asahina gasp. Leon fell down in the grass, his mouth was bleeding.
This is one of the many reasons I'm glad to have Mondo as a friend.
"I'm talking about Kate you dumbass!" Mondo growled. "Ibuki found her sleeping in the rain on the side of the road! She could have been raped or dead and you didn't even give a shit!"
Leon slowly got up. "What was I suppose to do? She just ran."
I stiffened up, enraged.
Mondo kicked Leon in the stomach, sending him to the ground once more. According to the camera, Asahina seemed to run closer to them.
"Mondo! That's enough!" She yelled. "At least do this off camera!"
I saw Leon look up. "Off cam--"
The video ended.
Asahina put her phone away. "I thought it'd be good to take a video to see his true self."
I slowly nodded. "And I did...What did I even see in him?" I looked at Mondo. "Is he going to be at school tomorrow?"
Mondo shrugged. "I only broke his arm...I think."
I shook my head and laughed a bit.
The front door opened and in walked Ben and my mom. My mom stared at me. I ran up and hugged them both. "It's good to be home!"
I pulled away and my mom looked at my two friends, mainly at Mondo. "Were you the boy responsible for this?!"
Mondo backed up a bit. "N-No ma'am! I'm just a friend!"
I smiled. My mom could scare a member of a biker gang. "Mondo's just a friend that was worried about me. I haven't seen Leon since last night."
My mom sighed. "Thank you for supporting my daughter."
Asahina smiled brightly. "Of course! I guess we should go now. Bye Kate! See you tomorrow!" They both walked out and drove away.
The rest of the night went on normally. I went to bed, dreading to get up the next morning.
