Lucy de Fiore's POV
As I was laying on my bed, I heard a shrill scream not too far away. I ran out of my room immediately only to see Mirajane running towards the exit already.
The both of us ran to the source of the scream only to see a crowd of villagers gathering outside a cottage. That was when I realised Mirajane stood rooted to the spot with a frozen expression across her face. I approached her and tapped her shoulder gently,"Mirajane?" She covered her mouth with her hands and stuttered, "L-L-Lisanna? Lisanna!" That was when she dashed through the crowd. "Mirajane!" I called out to her but it seems like she didn't hear me.
Damn it!
I entered the crowd of bodies and tried squeezing through them, "Excuse me! Let me through please!" Soon, I arrived at the entrance of the cottage. I let out a sigh as I wiped my forehead filled with perspiration due to the 'workout' just now. I pushed open the wooden doors and entered the house. With each step I took, small cries and sobs could be heard getting louder and louder.
My heart started hammering in my chest. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I approached the room. I noticed a figure on the floor, crying hysterically. It was Mirajane. I went over to her hastily only to realise that Natsu was sobbing while holding on to a familiar looking body. I blinked once to adjust myself to the room. Reality dawned before me as my breath hitched.
That body belonged to Lisanna.
My mind went blank as I approached the couple slowly and looked down at Lisanna's face that was deathly pale. I held her hand and mumbled softly, "Lisanna? Hey Lisanna... Wake up..." Tears dripped from my face as I fell on my knees while holding her hand near to my cheek dearly, "This has to be a lie..." I mumbled softly, "It has to be..."
---
The next morning, a funeral was held at the central of the village for the loss of Lisanna. Everyone was dressed in black with solemn expressions across their features. My eyes were red and puffy from all the crying yesterday.
Why did this have to happen...?
Even though I only knew Lisanna for a short period of time, she was a very special person to me - she was my first female friend. My chest tightened and I was ready to cry again. I looked over to Natsu and saw a blank look on his face. His eyes showed no emotion. It was empty.
He must be taking this worst than others. Lisanna was the woman he loved, she was his lover. It's really painful to lose someone you hold dear, it feels as if your life holds no meaning anymore, you no longer have the will to carry on living, not when your loved ones are no longer part of the same world.
I bit my lip and rushed over to Natsu and gave him a tight hug. No words were exchanged as I gripped on to his shirt tightly. He needs someone now. His ragged breathing tickled my neck as I heard him mumble 'Lisanna' before he returned the hug just as tight. He started to cry in my arms as I patted his head lightly. Seeing him in this state made the tears I kept in trickle down.
We clung onto each other desperately for a few minutes before I released the hug and cupped his cheeks, "It's going to be alright Natsu. I'm right here." He didn't say anything in return, all he did was to hold my hand. His hand was trembling. I gave him a reassuring grip before we walked together to the casket.
---
Mirajane approached the coffin slowly. She placed the bouquet of flowers atop of the glass casket surrounded by lilies. I stood beside her gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. She looked at me and gave me a sad smile before looking back at her sister.
"Lisanna, as your elder sister I failed to protect you. Now I'm all alone in this world, with Elfman and you gone, what am I supposed to do...? I swore to protect you and now..." Tears fell from Mirajane's eyes as she continued, "I'm sorry Lisanna. I really am... I love-" She stopped short as an arrow shot through her chest. Gasps could be escaping from the crowd as Natsu and I looked in horror.
No... No! This can't be happening!
I turned my head to locate the person who shot the arrow. My eyes darted from one place to another until it landed on a suspicious figure on a tree branch. I squinted my eyes and noticed blonde strands of hair sticking out from his hood. Our eyes met and that person escaped immediately.
I gave chase quickly. I was keeping up with the person, whom I presume is a man. Thank god I trained my legs not too long ago.
"Stop!" I yelled. "Stop running and get down here!" He was jumping through trees while I ran on the ground. I almost caught up to him until I freaking tripped on a bloody piece of rock. I fell flat on my face as I hissed in pain. I pounded my fist on the ground, "Shit!"
I lost him.
That was until a shadow cast over me. I looked up and saw the same man I was chasing reaching out a hand to me.
I slapped his hand away and asked menacingly, "Who are you and why did you do that?" I gritted my teeth furiously.
He kept his silence.
"I'm asking you why did you do that!" I shouted at him as tears started to fall, "Do you think killing people is fun? I don't think so! Each and every life is precious and not meant to be killed just like that!" I yelled. He still kept quiet.
That was when I got frustrated. I stood up and gripped a fistful of his shirt and pulled his face closed to mine, "I'm asking you why..." I said in a dangerously low tone. Then, that man let out a small sigh as he pushed my body away from his gently before pulling his hood away, revealing his face.
I looked at him, aghast. He focused his gaze on mine as pain was plastered across his face. I fell on my knees and faced the floor, "Why...?" I mumbled inaudibly.
His voice came out huskily as he said sadly, "I told you to stay away didn't I?"
