Kenny (2018)
Duck has never matured. He's always horsing around with his dumb friends, always at parties, and brings home a new girl every week.
One day, Katjaa purposely called one of his girls the wrong name. He's been mad at her since. Apparently, the girl dumped him.
When Duck was fifteen, we got him a boat. He got his boating license when he was sixteen, and always uses his boat. He sometimes throws parties on it, no doubt he has girls at his party.
We moved to Georgia for a new job opportunity for Kat. We made a huge accident and lost a lot of money on new baby stuff since we got rid of Duck's. I finally have a little girl, though. We had her when Duck was twelve.
We named her Bettie because it sounds like Boatie which is my favorite boat's name. Queen Boatie. Kat didn't want to name her after a boat, but I somehow convinced her. Bettie's middle name is Anne which is what Kat wanted to name her.
Duck is out right now on his boat as usual. Kat is at work, and I'm having a tea party with Bettie. Bettie's fourth birthday is coming up, and we've been having a tough time finding decorations. She wants a boat themed party. Like father like daughter.
So far, we've gotten all of her friends invited. We're going on a boat ride, then coming back for presents and cake. We're going to have picture cut-outs of her favorite boats, Wally Yachts, Sunseeker Yachts, and Princess Yachts. As you can tell, she really loves yachts. We are going to give her a boat birthday cake and put up blue streamers for "water" around the room.
A game we will play is pin the Bettie head on Queen Boatie.
Well, enough about talking about Bettie's party. I made mint tea, Bettie's favorite tea, so she wouldn't have to use water like she usually does.
Bettie poured me some tea, I sipped it, then felt a vibration in my pocket. It was my phone. Duck and Katjaa made me switch from a flip phone to a smartphone just a couple months ago for my birthday. I really don't like it. The only thing I use it for is to take pictures of my family and, of course, Queen Boatie, and to call.
I looked at the screen.

"Hello?"
"Kenny," Katjaa was in tears. My heartbeat quickened. "It's Duck. He was in an accident."
"Is that Mommy?" Bettie smiled at me. I just looked at her and looked away.
"Where is he? Is he okay?"
"He's at the hospital. I don't know if he's okay. They won't tell me anything or let me see him."
"I'll be right there."
"Hurry."
I hung up and stood from the table. "Daddy has to go somewhere. You're going to stay at Cindy's house for the time being, okay?" My heart felt like it was going to fly out of my chest, it was beating so fast.
I packed a pair of her pajamas and an outfit and things she needs to go to sleep, then grabbed my own stuff and we walked next door.
Cindy answered the door, I told her everything. She's a nice old woman, she loves Bettie and Bettie loves her. Cindy's husband died a couple months before Bettie was born, so Bettie has been a great coping mechanism for Cindy.
I got into my truck, and left for the hospital.
When I got there, I saw my beautiful wife crying her eyes out in the waiting room for ICU.
I walked over to her, and she sighed in relief. "Kenny, I'm so worried about him. I don't want our baby boy to be dead!"
A doctor came out, his facial expression blank. "His spine cracked on a rock when he fell off the boat. He will never walk again."
Twelve years later...
Katjaa never recovered from learning that Duck was paralyzed in the legs. She never payed attention at work, and one day she ticked off a horse so it kicked her. It kicked her in the end and she died from the brain damage. They were gonna kill the horse, but I didn't let the anger get in the way. I did what Kat would've wanted, and ordered that it stay alive.
Duck is married now, he found a girl that loves him, and apparently his manhood still works so I guess that's great for him. He'll keep the family name alive.
Bettie is sixteen, and she acts just like Duck. She's an exact replica of him. She loves to party on her boat, but luckily she doesn't bring any guys home. If she did, I would probably be in jail right now for killing them with my bare hands.
I was sitting at my desk, looking at all the fish I had caught over the past ten years with Bettie. Bettie loves to fish with me and she started fishing with me when she was six. I saw my screen on my phone light up.
It was an unknown number.
I answered it.
"Hello? Is this Mr. Rogers?" A voice questioned.
"Uh, Yeah. This is he."
"This is Doctor Gordon, your daughter Bettie had an accident with her boat."
