Claire's POV
"Don't be scared, please."
I felt frozen, didn't move one centimeter. Unable to stumble back, I watched the two come closer to us while fear still rushed over me like waves on a cliff.
"This isn't a good idea. And you damn know that." A second male voice whispered.
"Maybe they know something." The girl replied and dared another step closer.
"Damn, Daphne. Come fucking back. I dare you, if you don't-"
"Shut it up." In a friendlier voice she talked to us: "Hi, I'm Daphne and this is Len. May we sit down? You really don't have to be terrified."Carefully she sat down. Warm golden hair curls flew over her shoulders, framing a friendly face and green eyes.
Her friend, Len, also sat down. His skin was dark brown. He wore metal plates and red fabric around his thighs. His eyes were dark and full of suspect.
She smiled and gestured towards us signing us to sit down. We followed, Ana still holding my hand.
"And who are you?" She asked still friendly but with a touch of impatience.
I cleared my throat. Should I answer? But before I got the chance to reply Ana answered also for me: "Hi, I'm Ana and this is my friend Claire. It's nice to meet you."
We shook hands. I was a little uncomfortable. There was something about these people. I decided to put my feelings back and tried it with a smile.
At least I tried.
And I still earned two smiles back.
"You know where we are?" Ana asked unfortunately.
"On the ground" came the answer back.
"Very funny" Daphne said, "No, we don't know either. But before we came here there were some kinda voices in our heads. Telling our names and that we'd be War and Hope. He's war."
"What's war? What's hope? I met them too." The words were faster off Ana's mouth as I could stop them. I wish she wouldn't have said that.
"We don't know. You met them too? Both of you? What do they want from us? You know whether there are more of us? Or not?" Unconcealed curiosity was screaming out of her voice.
"She didn't."
"What?" Daphne asked, watching me closer now.
"I did not meet them. My name comes from Ana and I woke up in darkness. I know nothing. I don't know who I am or how old I am. I don't know what I am doing here. I never heard about Love or War or Hope. I know fucking nothing."
As soon as the words slipped over my lips I wish I could have undone it.
I was nearly crying. This wasn't how it's supposed to be. Silence floated over us, all starring at me.
"I need a break." I said and stood up. Ana grabbed after my hand but I refused and walked away.
Calm down, I said to myself. Just breathing and not crying.
I was leaning against a tree and just listened to the others without them seeing me. I felt miserable, humiliated and completely tired.
What was it that 'they' didn't speak to me?
I closed my eyes and allowed my body to relax a little.
I was sitting there for half an hour, not really paying any attention to the conversation of the others when I heard steps coming near me.
