Lyric was completely absorbed in his book, unaware of what was going on around him. Not that he cared. He liked quiet. Suddenly, the table shook and a slam echoed around him. "Ah!" He jumped, looking up. "You..." He held a hand over his heart, breathing heavily.
Ryu smirked. "New kid... Lyric, right?"
Lyric glared at him, nodding.
"I'm Ryu Kagome. This is Gintoki Abyss, and Vance Intukai," Ryu pointed to Gin and Vance.
Lyric shrugged. "Okay..." He said, frowning at Ryu.
Ryu smirked. "You see, Lyric, I was wondering if maybe you'd join us? Hang out?" He asked.
Lyric raised a brow and shook his head.
Gintoki smirked. "Come on, man," He said. "We can hook you up with some hot chicks!"
Lyric glared at that. "No."
Ryu blinked. No one had ever rejected an offer to sit with Mr. Popular before. He scoffed. "Whatever," He growled, walking off with Gintoki.
Vance lingered behind, looking into Lyric's cold, dark eyes. "I'm sorry about Ryu. He can be kind of a jerk sometimes, but he's harmless," He chuckled.
Lyric didn't reply, he just looked down at the table.
"Uh," Vance sat down next to him. "I'm Vance."
"Lyric," He replied curtly.
"Your name sounds pretty cool," Vance said.
Lyric bit his lip. "What do you want from me?"
Vance frowned. "I, um...just wanted to see if maybe I could help show you around," Vance said.
Lyric stood up. "I don't need anyone's help."
Vance stood too, "Well, I was just-"
Lyric interrupted him. "Let me give you a piece of advice. Don't." He snapped and grabbed his book, storming off.
Vance bit his lip. "What's his problem?"

Lyric sat down on the floor in the hallway. "I don't need anyone's help. I'm not a baby.." He grumbled to himself.
"Sometimes we all need help," A voice said from above him. He looked up, seeing a girl with two blonde pigtails. He slightly narrowed his eyes. "I'm Haruka!" She held out a hand as she sat next to him. Lyric stared at it a moment before turning away in silence, but Haruka seemed unfazed. "You're Lyric! I already knew that. You know, you're quite popular among the students. You're all they talk about!"
Lyric sneered. "I don't want popularity."
Haruka closed her eyes, tilted her head and gave a large smile. "You're just about the first person to say that in a long time." Lyric shrugged, his arms crossed and his bangs set low into his eyes. "Not many people are like you," She said. "You don't care for appearances."
Lyric made his voice as cold as ice, "I don't care. You should just leave me alone."
Haruka giggled. "No way! I demand that we be friends!" She said.
Lyric glared hard at the ground. "No," He stood up, "I don't need friends."
Haruka sighed and stood up, too. "Look, I know how hard it can be to be the new kid. I just moved here last year and I didn't know how to make friends either," She said.
"I told you. I don't need friends," Lyric snapped.
Haruka pouted. "We all need friends, Lyric."
Lyric sneered. "Let me rephrase that, I don't want friends." He narrowed his eyes and then walked off, his posture stiff.
Haruka chased after him. "Why not?!" She called. "Friends help you with your problems and support you when you need it!" She jumped in front of him.
Lyric ignored her and walked off. ~I thought so, too. But I was wrong.~ He thought to himself.
