The next day, Vance had followed Lyric around every chance he got. He had tried talking to Lyric, but Lyric wasn't too eager to talk. Not that he had ever been. At least, not for a while. It soon became time for lunch, and Lyric had managed to get to the cafeteria without seeing Vance.

"Thought I'd never get away from him..." He mumbled to himself, walking to the empty table that he had occupied yesterday. Even if it had been only for a short time, he still considered it to be his table. He sat down and sighed softly, opening his book. He didn't eat again today, not finding himself to be hungry.

"Hey, Lyric!" Vance was now standing next to his chair, grinning down at him.

Lyric scowled and looked up. "You again?" He let an annoyed sigh escape his lips.

"Me again," Vance confirmed. He took the chair next to Lyric. "I can only stay for a moment, but I just thought I'd come and say hello," He said.

Lyric frowned, looking back down at his book. "Don't bother."

Vance shook his head. His eyes drifted to Lyric's book and without a warning, he reached forward and pulled it from Lyric's small, pale fingers.

"Hey!" Lyric frowned, reaching for it. "I was reading that, you fiendish ingrate!"

Vance grabbed Lyric's small hands with one of his own. "I'm only looking, Lyric. Chill," He said, reading the cover.

Lyric's face flushed as Vance held onto his hands. "Uh...hey..." He tried to pull his hands away. "Y-You can't just-!"

Vance silenced him with a look. Then he smirked. "Only a nerd would read so much."

Lyric scowled, offended. "I'll have you know that-"

Vance cut him off. "Don't care for nerd talk. Now, here," He set the book back in front of Lyric. "Not that I can understand why anyone would willingly read about history."

Lyric knew better than to try and use words to get his point across. Instead he tried to pull his hands back. "Just let go!" He said.

Vance smirked, letting his hands go. "Touchy, aren't we?" He asked.

Lyric huffed, pushing up the glasses on the bridge of his nose. "I hope you don't expect me to dignify that with a response." He turned his head away.

Vance chuckled. "Whatever, nerd," He said and stood up. "I'll catch you later." He ruffled Lyric's hair before walking off towards Ryu and Gintoki.

Lyric grumbled profanities under his breath as he fixed his black hair. "Whatever..." He huffed.

"Hey," A girl stood next to him now. It was Haruka. "May I sit?"

Lyric bit his lip. "I don't care..." He said quietly, pulling his book into his lap.

Haruka sat down in the chair that Vance had been sitting in a moment ago. "I wanted to talk to you."

Lyric shrugged. "Then talk..."

Haruka sighed. "What happened, Lyric?" She asked.

"I don't understand the question," Lyric said. And that was rare.

"Why do you do this? Don't you want a friend?" She asked.

"They're a hassle," Lyric answered simply, his lips set in a firm line.

Haruka watched him a moment before setting a laptop on the table. She turned the screen so he could see. "I did some snooping. It wasn't right of me to do so, but I had to know why you got so upset..." She said softly.

Lyric frowned, leaning forward and adjusting his glasses so he could see the picture. It was a picture of a group of boys huddled together, smiling at the camera. They were a group of friends. One of them was Lyric. He didn't say anything, he just leaned back.
