Chapter Sixteen.

Lyric took in a deep breath. "It all started when I became friends with Li Tendo. He was captain of the football team, soccer team, basketball...etcetera. I was captain of the chess team and our academic team. I don't know why, but Li decided to be friends with me. I went to all his games and we hung out all the time with our other friends.

The only problem was, I started getting jealous of all of his girlfriends for some reason. I didn't know why. I thought I was going insane or something. That was, until he started talking about his sex life. I realized why I'd been so jealous. I liked Li. But he never knew. I would keep it a secret from him and I would pretend to be interested in girls like he was, but it was always hard to try and keep up the act. But one day when I thought that I could trust him, I told him everything..." Lyric trailed off. He bit his lip hard. "He was mortified. At first he thought I was kidding. When he saw my serious look, he knew it was true. He laughed in my face and told everyone. I was a joke. Someone to pick on. From that day forward, Li made sure that I was excluded from all extracurricular activities, pep rallies, school fundraisers...everything. Anyone caught trying to befriend me was also laughed at. Not even my old friends would hang out with me anymore. Li made sure that everyone knew that I was a 'gay fag'. It was awful. I hid in the bathrooms during lunch. I skipped most of my classes to avoid humiliation..." Lyric's eyes watered.

Vance even felt himself get a little teary. ~Oh, Lyric...~

"But finally, my parents said that we were moving and I finally got my new start. Here. So, I guess you can see why it is hard for me to believe you..." Lyric said softly, looking down at his lap. "I find it hard to trust people...You could think that you know them until they turn on you." He whispered.

Vance bit his lip. "Oh, Lyric. I'm so sorry..."

Lyric glanced up at him. "It is all in the past. May we just forget about it?"

Vance clenched his fists. ~If by forget, you mean kill Li, then sure.~ "I can't. I promised to protect you, Lyric. And that is exactly what I'm going to do." Vance looked at him.

Lyric nervously twiddled his fingers. "But, Vance-"

"No, Lyric. What Li did to you is inexcusable. He betrayed your trust and abandoned your friendship. I care about you, you know? A lot...No one will lay a hand on you again for as long as I live." Vance took Lyric's hand.

Lyric sniffed. "What if-?"

"Lyric? Listen to me, Kitten. Who do you belong to?" Vance asked Lyric softly.

Lyric blushed. "Nn...er...y-you..."

"And who will protect you?" Vance asked again.

"You..." Lyric said softly.

"And who is the only one allowed to touch you?" Vance smirked softly at that.

"Y-You..." Lyric blushed brightly at that.

Vance grinned. "Exactly. So don't worry, Kitten. I'm going to be right here beside you forever. You have no reason to doubt me," Vance said, taking Lyric's other hand and pressing his lips to the back of Lyric's hand.

Lyric giggled softly. "Th-Thank you..." He smiled at Vance.

Vance grinned and pecked Lyric's lips. "Don't thank me. I do this because I want to, Kitten."

Lyric nodded and hugged Vance tightly. "You mean a lot to me, Vance." He mumbled.

Vance smiled softly. "I know. And you mean a lot to me, as well."

Lyric giggled. "Thank you so much for being here."

Vance smiled. "No thank you needed. I love being with you. Now, let's get you home." He placed a kiss on Lyric's forehead before ushering Lyric to sit straight. Then he helped buckle him in and then he went to his side and got in the drivers seat. He started the car and drove to Lyric's house.
