They took them out of the door, the same door that I've been staring at since the beginning - the same door I've been beginning in my head to open and for someone to save us. The same door I knew we were going to knock down and run from this place.
My hands shook and my breathing became a hyperventilation. I looked to Luna and Madelyn as we stood up, Luna's hands finding her hair immediately and myself finding my mouth as I covered it with my right hand, gasping out a breath of sorrow.
"Ho-How do we decide something like this? We can't--oh my god, We can't do this." I said frantically, gasping as I looked around. "Luna, what do we do? What do we do? I don't want anyone to die."
"Calm down." Luna exclaimed, bringing her hand to silence me, "Nobody's going to die. We're going to figure out a way out of this."
"You know that can't be done, not with him." Madelyn voiced, making me look to the ground.
"But-But we have an hour, right? We can just look around, try to find a way to get out of here."
"He's too smart to put a way out." Luna said. She looked to the dimmed face of Laurel as she tugged on Luna's outfit.
"Please, please do something! I want Bella to live!" She cried, tears rolling down her face, "I don't want anyone to die."
"Nobody can die!" Screamed Jinxx, "Shit - I don't wanna die either! Just let them kill the three."
"No, we can't do that!" Madelyn shouted. Luna and I shared a glance and she put her hand up again with anger.
"Shut up, all of you." She demanded and I looked around, bringing my gaze down to the ground.
"At the end of the day, we don't have any time. You know James means business. You know that! So we need to do something quick. There's no way in Hell we're breaking down that door and we don't have our weapons." Jinxx said.
"There's nine of us. We could take him down." Stacy quickly said.
"And what? They have ten men with guns, Stace!" Alex said.
"Well can we take more than a minute and think about what we're talking about here? They want us for some reason, they have to! It can't just be fate. Maybe we can offer money! We can--we can offer anything." Madelyn said.
"Like that worked so well for Harper." Jinxx said under his breath.
"The reason James is doing this is because we're fucked up assholes that sent him on his way." Luna said.
But that's not our fault.
"Then what do we do?" She asked softly.
"We volunteer ourselves." I offered. Luna shook her head.
"We take volunteers." Madelyn suggested, and Luna shook her head once again, glancing and pulling herself into a crossed arm state.
"No, we don't do that. We're going--."
"If we're taking volunteers..." started, making me stare at him and shake my head.
"No, Alex, we're not--."
"I said it's me." He said, pointing his finger to and then to . "If it gives them a chance to live, then I'll do anything -- anything in my power -- to do it. Do you understand me?"
Silence followed.
"Maybe volunteering wouldn't be such a bad idea." Madelyn said and then turned to Alex.
