He washed his face with cold water twice and sighed after drying it with a towel.

"Get your shit together." He told himself as he looked into the mirror. Then he shook his head again and straightened up. As he walked out and passed all the rooms downstairs, he heard a squeal.

He immediately walked back to the room he just passed. It was halfway opened and he had a good look at the room before he even walked in. He barged in, thinking the child was in jeopardy. But again, there was nobody there. The window was closed and the only person in that room was the little one in the stroller, seemingly awake and kicking.

Zion didn't know whether he should just leave or what. He felt like it was the appropriate thing to just leave and tell Bonnie that her son was awake. But something just glued him to where he was standing. Maybe it was the fact that when River spotted him, he started smiling in a way that warmed even Zion's heart.

He dared to step closer slowly, hoping River wouldn't start crying. The boy was still kicking and smiling when Zion eventually reached him. The boy let out a smal squeal as his mouth released some wet bubbles.

"You're drooling." Zion whispered as he tried to gently wipe the boy's saliva off with his sleeve. He decided to get rid of his suit jacket now that it had a sleeve soaked with drool. River was in a guest room and his stroller was placed right at the end of the bed, where Zion sat down.

For a while he just watched the baby with a small smile. He wondered if River would ever find out who his father is. According to the deal, he wouldn't. For some reason, that irked Zion. He never wanted children, he never wanted to be in a relationship. None of that.

Suddenly River started crying and Zion jumped up from the bed. What happened? He didn't know what to do, so he just took a hold of the stroller and pushed it forward before pulling it back slowly. River was still crying, even after a whole minute. Zion started to panic. Bonnie was going to come in any second and accuse him of doing something to the baby, he knew.

"Calm down, everything's fine." Zion tried to coo River by patting his head gently. Then he realized that his son wasn't a dog, so he did the only thing he could think of in that moment. He lifted River out of his stroller with confident hands. Even though he's never held a baby before, he seemed to get a hang of it.

"It's alright." Zion cooed as he held him properly, with his head resting under Zion's chin. Then he started moving his body slightly, so the baby would calm down. It worked. River stopped crying after half a minute and let Zion change his position. Now River's head was comfortably resting on Zion's shoulder as he stroked the boy's back gently.

"Everything is alright." Zion whispered, closing his eyes. His heart felt weird and he felt like crying all of a sudden. With his eyes closed, it was hard to refrain from imagining how his life would be if him and Ebony would've met in another way. And how it would be if River was the outcome of a beautiful love story rather than a blackmailing.

How it would be to be a father and to watch him grow up and teach him all the things his father never taught him. Maybe give him a sibling or two...

But that would never happen. He could never be a father or more than a lover to Bonnie.
