Zion stood by the door, watching the doctor ask Bonnie some questions. She was unconscious for not longer than half an hour. After she almost fell to the ground, he carried her upstairs into the room he slept in last night. He told Maddox to call a doctor and once she was awake, he was able to examine her and ask her questions.
"I would like to do a blood test if that is alright with you?" Maddox' doctor said and Bonnie nodded. Zion watched the man do his job and then straightened when he approached him.
"She is alright, but needs rest for a few hours. It was very good that you caught her, otherwise it could've been fatal." The old man patted Zion's shoulder and then left the room to talk to the Lord."The doctor said you needed rest." Zion reminded Bonnie when he saw her sit up.
"I know, but I'm fine. I'll go home and get some rest there." She said, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed.
"It's better if you stay here. There are still pap-""I don't care, I just-"
"River is taken care of. My mother should be at your place by now. And once the event is over, I can drive you home. Just not yet." He said, scratching his neck. She looked up at him and sighed once she remembered who she was trying to argue with. Besides that, she knew River was safe with his grandma."Where is Cirus?" She asked, not entirely sure if she only dreamt about the fight between the two. Zion clenched his jaw.
"Why do you care? Are you like a couple or what?" He asked, hoping she'd decline.
"No, but he was my companion for the night." She said."Nice companion. Leaves unnoticed as soon as he finds a way. I don't know what you see in him and why you'd even ask about him. I told you he was only using you for the story. Not to forget that he dirtied our son's name. He called him a bastard and yet you want to know about his wellbeing?" Zion snapped and Bonnie shook her head. She just couldn't believe it.
"Ebony." Zion crouched down in front of her, waiting for Bonnie to look at him.
"Have I ever lied to you?" He asked her with a face that showed her how sincere he was. But she knew he was telling the truth all along. She just couldn't understand how naive she was."I know you never did and I believe you. I wasn't asking about his wellbeing- I just don't know what to do. I can't believe he was right in front of me and I didn't realize." She frowned at Zion now.
"For how long have you known?" She asked."Ever since the woman at the C. K. store reminded me that there are lots of people with those initials. He was at my office a few months before that, then I saw him with you and I knew it was no coincidence." He responded.
"Why didn't you tell me before?" She asked him.
"I didn't think you'd believe me and I was afraid you'd blow it." He answered honestly."You should've told me before. I could've-" Zion scoffed.
"You could've what?" He asked, but Bonnie had no answer.
"Exactly." He said. It was quiet for a minute."I will ruin him. I don't know how, but I will ruin him." She said, making Zion bite his lip in order to refrain from smiling. Something about her being all vulnerable but still trying to sound tough was cute to him. Zion shook his head.
"Get some rest. As soon as the event is over, I'll drive you home." He said, straightening his back again."But what are we-" Bonnie wanted to talk about Cirus again, but Zion interrupted her.
"Don't worry about him, I'll handle it." He said, urging her to lay down..
The drive home was quiet as the two were lost in their own thoughts.
But Zion just couldn't get rid of that one thought that bothered and confused him. So when he stopped at a red light, he glanced at Bonnie next to him. She looked tired and he would lie if he said he wasn't tired himself.
"What?" Bonnie asked, glancing back at Zion when she felt his gaze on her. He only shook his head and looked away. But then he sighed and looked back at Bonnie with a frown.
"You had a miscarriage." He finally said. Bonnie closed her eyes for a second."Was it mine?" He had to know. There was no way he could fall asleep if he didn't ask.
"Yes." She said, surprised he forgot that he was the only man she's ever had sex with. Or maybe she didn't tell him?"When was it?" He asked, ignoring the honking behind him when the street light has already been green for a few seconds. But he didn't move, he had to know what happened.
"A few weeks after we first started to- you know." She sighed."Look, there are people that are-" Bonnie wanted to tell him to drive, but he shook his head.
"I don't care about them, right now. I want to know why you didn't tell me that. And you dared getting angry when I didn't tell you about my suspicion." He fully turned towards her."First of all, I wasn't mad at you. And secondly, can we just drive home and then talk? I'm willing to explain, but not when a bunch of angry drivers are honking their horn." She said, getting a headache already. Maybe she was getting sick, she thought.
"Fine." Zion said, knowing that he'd get his answers sooner if he just drove. So he did.
