"This here is your journal in which you will write in all year. You can write on top 'Please do not read this' and I won't read it. But feel free to write anything in it. It's like your personal diary", Mrs. McKenna explained as she passed out the marble notebooks. Immediately, Sarah started to write in her notebook. I peered over her shoulder since she was sitting in the desk in front of me. I saw that she was writing about Ryan. I rolled my eyes and sat back down. What to write about...
Please Do Not Read This
Dear Diary,
I can't believe that I'm writing in this stupid notebook. But, I have to get phenomenal grades if I'm going to be enrolled into Princeton after senior year. Anyways, it's the first day of school and I already want school to end. Brielle embarrassed me at lunch by sticking her chicken leg out so I fell. I really hate her so much! Although, Brielle isn't the only one who is making my first day awful. Sarah, my best friend, is too caught up into her boyfriend, Ryan! I hardly got to speak with her at lunch because all they did was make out. Good thing I got to talk to the new girl, Rachel or else I would've had a mental breakdown! Rachel is really nice. She moved here from San Diego because both of her parents have Stage Four lung cancer. She told me that her grandparents smoked a half of a pack of cigarettes, every day. It's really sad that she had to pack up her life in San Diego to take of her grandparents here. She told me that she used to be popular and helped out with a lot of charities in the area she lived in. I believe everything that she has told me so far. Her life is so interesting. I think that Rachel will definitely be my best friend if Sarah continues to act like I'm invisible.
Love,
Natalie
I shut my notebook and looked to my right where I saw Rachel writing in her notebook still. I raised my hand and waited for Mrs. McKenna to respond. This biotch is reading a magazine. I frowned and cleared my throat extra loud. Mrs. McKenna looked up from her magazine and plastered a fake smile on her face.
"Yes, Natalie?" she asked in an innocent voice.
"May I go to the bathroom?"
Mrs. McKenna nodded and I shot up from my seat. A couple of students glanced up at me with an annoyed face, but I ignored them. I awkwardly walked out of the classroom and into the bathroom. The thick smell of smoke hit me as I opened the door to the ladies' room. I saw a couple of girls giggling and smoking cigarettes in the corner of the bathroom.
"So, Mark says that he's way better at running than me. I then, challenged him to a race after school today", said Mabeline to three other girls. I quickly slid into the first stall and locked it.
"Mark is going to so beat you. You can't even walk to class without passing out", said Kira, a girl from my child care class who is really annoying.
"But I won't pass out while beating your ass, Kira", Mabelline shot back. I couldn't help but chuckle. "Nerdalie, haven't seen you since you busted your ass when Brielle tripped you." Her friends laughed.
I opened the stall and poked my head out. "You are such a bitter bitch, Mabelline. Maybe instead of caking on another layer of makeup, you should improve your personality."
"Was that supposed to make me feel insulted?"
"Maybe just a little." I closed the door to my stall and peed in the toilet. I couldn't help but notice that the group of girls were silent. Maybe they left...
I opened my stall again and there they were again, still smoking. This time, they were eyeballing me. Watching my every move. I carefully walked to the sink closest to the door and washed my hand.
"Hey, Natalie", called Mabelline in a non-bitter tone. "Do you think I could beat Mark?"
I was in complete shock. Mabelline asked me if she could beat Mark. Someone should've gotten that historic moment on camera! I didn't really know how to answer her so I just said, "Girls rule", and left back to class.
"Did you fall in the toilet?" Mrs. McKenna asked. I can tell it's going to be a long year of little sarcastic remarks between her and I.
"Nope. Some people have social lives unlike some people who worry about kids falling in toilets", I smiled and walked back to my seat. Sarah was knocked out and Rachel was reading. I on the other hand was bored out of my mind.
"Natalie? Do you want a book to read? I have 'The Fault In Our Stars' in my bookbag", Rachel sang like I was going to jump out of my chair and wrestle her for it.
"No thanks. I'm more of a Potterhead. Or even Marvel comics are fun", I said. Rachel looked at me like I had teo heads. Is it that weird that I like comic books?
"Oh, well what are you doing afterschool?" Rachel whispered.
"Well, my dad is most likely shooting a movie in New York City so... I might tag along", I responded.
"Your dad is a movie director?"
"Yeah. He's Lester Saxton."
"Oh my God! Your dad is directing Bryan Freeler's new movie, 'Stopping Alcholics'! Can I come?"
"Sure, but you have to be cooler than a cucumber." Rachel nodded frantically. I thought her head was going to fly off her body.
"Okay. You can take my bus home."
