daniel's pov:

brooke and i have never been this distant from each other. even when i first moved out to LA, we always kept in contact. now, we're physically closer, but we're still so far apart.

and i think jonah is the reason why my little sister and i are so distant. it's like he's taking my place in her life.

she confides in him.

she trusts him.

she hangs out with him instead of me.

-

brooke and jonah walked back in the house, and my head immediately turned to them. jonah went back up to his room, and brooke was about to follow him, until i asked, "brooke, can i talk to you?"

"sure, dani, what's up?" brooke asked, sitting next to me on the couch.

"why are we so distant?" i interrogated.

"what do you mean? we're not distant," brooke scoffed.

"can you remember the last time we hung out?" i inquired.

brooke shook her head.

"exactly," i said, "now, can you tell me the last time you hung out with jonah, other than just a few minutes ago?"

"yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that, and so on and so forth," brooke sighed.

"do you see my point?" i queried.

"yeah, i see it," brooke declared, "you're accusing jonah of being the reason why we're so distant."

"i'm not accusing him. i'm saying that he's the reason why we're never talking anymore," i explained.

"daniel, we're siblings. we're going to be together no matter what. we don't have to talk every day to prove that we're still close. we're forever going to be close. and you shouldn't blame it all on jonah," brooke said.

"but he's the reason why i feel like my little sister is gone. i don't want to lose you," i added.

"you're not losing me, dani, and can you please stop controlling my life?! everything has to go your way. from your stupid rules, to this. it's like everything i do isn't what you want," brooke shouted.

"don't you dare raise your voice at me, brooke," i snapped.

"okay, i get it, you're older than me. that doesn't overpower the fact that i'm my own person and i'm mature. i can make my own decisions without you interfering," brooke said.

i could see the pools of water filling her eyes, and it made me feel terrible. she immediately dashed from the couch, and headed to her room.

"brooke, wait!" i called out, grabbing her wrist, "i'm just trying to be a good brother."

"if you want to be a good brother, then leave me alone," brooke declared, shutting her door.

great, what do i do now?
