She screamed, Running away from her dog as it chased her around the yard. I sat on the porch, smoking and watching.
But even though this was fucking hilarious, and I was with my best friend, I felt heavy.
I had felt this way since Gerard moved. I couldn't do anything about it, and neither could he. We were doing so well, too. We dated for a year and a half when he moved away. We broke up. Long distance relationships are hard to maintain, and we both agreed that it would be worthless to try. That doesn't mean I don't miss him, though. We call every Friday. He tells me about his week, I tell him about mine. It always ends in an 'I love you'. But it never felt the same. I couldn't see the words on his lips, and I couldn't see the truth in his eyes. I love him, I was damn sure about that, but those words most definitely didn't hold as Much value over the phone as it did in real life.

I gave in a dialled in Gerard's number. It rang twice before he answered.
"Y/n, what's up?" He asked, and I could hear the hurt in his tone.
"A-are you alright, Gee?" I asked, putting my smoke out.
"Yeah. Just depressed. Don't worry about it." He dismissed. "What did you want?"
"I uhm, I just wasted to call and remind you that I love you." I smiled, hearing him giggle over the line.
"I love you too, baby." He sighed. "And I really miss you."
"I miss you too." I frowned. "So much."
"I wish I could hug you right now. I wish I could tangle my fingers in your hair and kiss you until we couldn't breathe." He spoke softly, a painful backdrop to his sincere words.
"I wish you were here." I looked forewords to the sunset.
"Y/n! Let's go see that movie!" My friend yelled to me from the inside of her house.
"Babe, I gotta go. I uhh, we're gonna work something out, Okay? I love you." I hung up and trudged into the house.

"-and she just fucking went crazy. Like, I got drunk, but she got fucking delusional." I finished my story, sighing and leaning back into my pillow.
"Sounds like your break has been more fun than mine." Gerard sighed.
"I don't know. To be honest, I'd rather just spend time with you." I sighed back.
"Me too, love. I was thinking about you yesterday, and I just really miss you." He said, I could feel the hurt and longing radiating from his voice.
"I miss you." I echoed. "Baby, I think I have to go." I sighed, looking at the time. I had a gig in an hour.
"Alright, love. Talk to you soon." Gerard frowned.
"Talk soon." I hung up. I sighed into my hands and stood up, walking to go get changed.

"School ends tomorrow for me!" I spoke excitedly into the phone.
"I'm proud of you, babe." Gerard laughed, and I could hear him shuffle around in his bed.
"Thank you, gee. I'm proud of you too." I smiled.
"I can't believe I won't be there for your graduation." He sighed sadly, biting his lip. Gerard felt like shit, he wanted to be there to support her, but he couldn't take time off work, and he couldn't miss anymore school.
"It's okay, don't worry about it. It's gonna be lame anyway." I lied. I was bummed that Gerard couldn't make it, but I wouldn't let him know that.
"Fuck, okay, my friend just knocked on the door. I'll call you later, babe. Love you." He hung up.

~

I laid back onto my bed after showering and taking off all my makeup from our graduation after party.
"Hi." Gerard's tired voice echoed through my head.
"Hi." I almost smiled. It was a rough night, everything reminded me of how the man I loved couldn't be with me. It was honestly quite distressing, and made having fun difficult.
"How was grad?" He asked.
"Uh, fine. I missed you." I confessed.
"Yeah, me too." He spoke softly. Before I knew it, I began to drift off to sleep.
"Baby? You still there?" Gerard asked, shaking me awake.
"Yeah, yeah. Just tired." I frowned.
"Go to sleep, love." He sighed into the phone.
"Okay. Goodnight. I miss you."
"Goodnight, I miss you more." He hung up.

I hopped onto the bus excitedly, dropping my money into the slot.
"Calm down, girly. Just a bus ride." The drive smiled to me. I faked a laugh and head off to the back of the bus, clutching my bag of clothes to my chest.
Just a bus ride.
I laughed.
I was gonna see Gerard in person again.

I called him mom about a week ago, and worked out our plan. Apparently, Gerard had gotten super bummed about me not being thee for his grad, just as I had, but I was desperate to do something about it this time. He was graduating tonight, and I got on the 3 hour bus trip with the intent to make it. I'd drop my bag off at his place and leave to the graduation with his parents, and then, I could finally see him again.
I had never been more excited in my life.

When the bus stopped and I spotted Donna outside, I almost cried. It was happening.
"Donna," I said softly, giving her a quick hug as I got off.
"Quickly, dear. The ceremony starts in 20 minutes." She urged me to her car.

We got to the ceremony with 3 minutes to spare, and when I saw Gerard walk into the room, I almost couldn't control myself. All of me was screaming
Run to him!
But I knew that would be a bad idea. Didn't want to make a scene.

It didn't stop me from admiring him, though. He looked the same as when I saw him, with shorter hair. His hazel eyes still glistened and he still had a smile as bright as the stars.

After what felt like an eternity, Gerard finally got up to revive his diploma. He looked so handsome in his suit, and I couldn't stop myself from swooning. Gerard's eyes scanned over the crowd as his mom got up to take a picture, and when his eyes met mine, he almost began to cry.
Y/n, he mouthed, smiling ecstatically. I grinned stupidly at him and clapped, laughing. As soon as he was allowed to step off stage, Gerard ran down into the audience. He pushed his line of family out of the way and collected me into his arms, burying his head in my hair.
"I fucking love you." He whispered, kissing my temple.
"I love you. I'm so proud of you." I whispered back. He pulled away from me slightly. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him against me, kissing him passionately. Gerard kissed back, holding me flush against him. I drew my hand back and cupped his cheek, brushing my thumb along his jaw. I pulled away softly.
"I'm so happy you're here, I love you, I love you," he giggled, kissing me again.
"I love you too, baby." I mumbled back.

The after party was spectacular. Gerard and I danced, and laughed, and held each other. We drank and joked, and neither of us had ever felt happier.
"I'm so happy I came down here for this," I sighed, leaning against Gerard's chest.
"Me too, baby." He tightened his arms Around my waist and kissed me, Smiling happily.
