"So you're...?" Dean says with an amused look on his face. When Castiel said he didn't like girls, Dean was surprised at the feeling of relief and excitement that washed over him. He quickly put together a plan in his mind."Yes Dean, I'm gay. Everyone already knows so it's not really that big of a deal you knowing about it." Castiel starts to freak out a little bit. "I'm hoping that you aren't homophobic but if you are I'd just like to say-"
"Castiel Novak, would you like to go on a date with me?"
~
"Okay Cas, you can take it off now." Dean said, his voice full of excitement and anticipation.
"I swear if you've taken me here to-" Castiel stopped as he looked around at the scene before him. Dean had taken the time to find this clearing where they could see the stars and prepared an entire picnic for them. The smile on Dean's face faltered as he saw a tear in Castiel's eye.
"Did I do something wrong? I can pack it up if-" Castiel pulled Dean towards him and kissed him.
"No one has ever done anything like this for me before. Thank you Dean, I love it." Castiel stared into Dean's eyes, their foreheads against each other.
"I'd do anything for you." Dean smiled and led Cas to the picnic blanket where he pulled out some of his homemade sandwiches before running to the car and putting on the tape he had put together specifically for this.
After enjoying their food Dean asked Castiel to dance.
"But I, can't, help, falling in love, with, you..." Dean softly sang into Castiel's ear.
"I love you Dean." Castiel said for the first time.
"I love you too Cas." Dean replied for the first time.
~
Castiel's head was resting on Dean's stomach as they laid in the grass in their spot, the one Charlie called 'The Destiel Clearing'. They were having a random conversation and Dean was being cheesy and making Cas laugh.
"I think falling in love with you was planned. I think that you saw me and you used that, what's it called? The love potion from Harry Potter?" Dean smiled up at the clouds as he ran his fingers through Cas' hair.
"Amortentia? That would've taken way too long to make. Try again." Cas laughed at his boyfriends antics.
"Well you must have some sort of formula then. Like a charm that you cast or something." Dean said.
"That's it, I knew you'd figure it out eventually." Cas laughed.
"Cas?" Dean suddenly had a more serious tone.
"Yeah Dean?" Castiel turned his head so he was looking towards Dean's face.
"You know how Charlie always says she wishes she could have amnesia so she could read the Harry Potter books over again?"
"Yeah. What about it?" Castiel was a little confused.
"If I ever get amnesia, I want you to pretend we're just friends. I want the chance to fall in love with you all over again." Dean said, sitting up and looking down at Castiel, who's head was now in his lap.
Castiel sat up so that he was face to face with Dean.
"That's cheesy, even for you Dean." Castiel smiled.
"I'm serious."
"What if you don't fall back in love with me?" Castiel worried.
"That's impossible. You're too perfect." Dean leaned their foreheads together. "Promise me."
"Okay Dean, I promise." Cas closed the space between them and they kissed.
~
"Cas calm down you're gonna hur-"
"DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! JUST STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER DEAN IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!" Cas screamed.
"Cas you have to let them finish the cast and then you can yell at me all you want!" Dean raised his voice only so that Cas would listen. Cas stopped for a moment and the doctor finished with the cast before quickly leaving the room.
"THERE IT'S DONE NOW! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW?! HUH?! I DON'T NEED YOU TO HOLD MY FUCKING HAND AND TELL ME EVRYTHING'S ALRIGHT! JUST SHU- Dean?"
"Cas- I don't feel so good."
Dean pulled Castiel closer to him until their bodies were flush, and kissed him. He wound his fingers into Cas' hair. Cas put his unbroken arm on the back of Dean's head and his cast rested on Dean's waist.
"I told you I'd fall in love with you again." Dean said when they broke apart.
"Dean? You-"
"I remember everything." Dean smiled at Cas and stole another kiss.
"I'm so sorry Dean! I never meant for any of this to happen. It was so hard pretending we were just friends. I missed you so much, and your last memory was of me yelling at you. Dean forg-" Castiel had been cut off by yet another kiss.
"You talk too much." Dean kissed him harder and started walking backwards towards the picnic blanket. He tripped over a rock and fell on his back, Castiel landing on top of him.
"Is your arm okay?" Dean asked immediately, not letting Cas get up off of him.
"Yeah." Cas breathed out.
"Good." Dean reached his hand back into Cas' hair and pulled him in for another heated kiss. Dean flipped them over so Castiel was under him.
"I'm so sorry Dean." Castiel said shyly. Dean had Cas pinned as he gazed down at his lover.
"Stop Cas, stop apologising. I'm not mad at you. It wasn't your fault, there was a gas leak and the diner blew up." Dean sat up, facing Cas. He put his hands on either side of his face and forced him to listen. "There is no way you could've known that was going to happen. Yes, it sucks that you broke your arm and that Jo is dead and Lucifer is still in the hospital and that I had freakin' amnesia, but look. Lucifer is going to get better. Your arm will too. There is nothing we can do about Jo, she had a beautiful funeral and she wouldn't want us to cry. And me. I'm here, I remember everything. I remember our first date, our first time coming to this clearing. I remember throwing water balloons out the Impala window at Sammy and your brothers while they were walking home." Dean smiled at the breath of laughter that came out of Castiel. There was a tear in Castiel's eye.
"Dean-" Cas started.
"I remember that you like when I sing at you sometimes. I remember that you want our first time to be special because you're a virgin. I remember that adorable head tilt that you do when your confused. I know that you can't make it through both movies at the drive-in because you fall asleep. I know that you talk in your sleep sometimes. I remember the whole roller coaster that was falling in love with Castiel Novak, and trust me Cas, nothing but death could stop me from coming back to you." Dean had pressed their foreheads together. "I love you Castiel Novak."
"I love you too Dean Winchester." Castiel had tears falling down his face but this time it wasn't because he was sad.
Dean pressed a soft kiss to Castiel's lips before they continued their picnic date. It was as if no time had passed, as if the diner never blew up, as they fell back into their same old routine.
