It's Complicated

Chapter 23:

***Alex's P.O.V.***

After we kissed, the entire car ride was silent. We arrived at a beach and Matthew got out of his side and ran over to my side to help me out. I was still a little scared of being touched because of the whole Carnival Fiasco  but Matt stuck out his hand and I gratefully took it. Before unlocking the car he went around to the trunk and grabbed a picnic basket and a blanket, then he patted his pocket obviously making sure something was in there. He grabbed my hand again and we started walking down this path, "Where are we going?" I asked dreamily as we continued walking.

"Nice to talk to you again, and it's a surprise." Matthew said, with excitement laced in his voice. I just nodded my head and he tugged at my hand, pulling me in another direction.

"Matt can you te-" I was cutoff by the sound of waves crashing against the shore. He took me to my absolute favorite place, the beach. You can even tell this was a secluded area because we were the only ones there, he walked up to a little above where the water washed up and laid out the blanket. Matthew motioned for me to sit next to him and I did, he laced our fingers together and gently rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand. This has been an amazing day!

***Matt's P.O.V.***

 Me and Alex were sitting down hand and hand when the sun started to set, Alex just watched in awe. I let go of her hand and reached into my pocket, I took her hand and put the box in it. When she noticed the box was there she looked up at me with wide eyes. This was it. She opened the box and saw the ring, I cleared my voice and took the ring out of the box and placed it on her left ring finger.

"I placed this ring on your finger, because that is the only finger with a vein that runs straight to the heart and  you will be the only girl that has my heart forever. For now I can't marry you because you obviously still hate me, but this is my promise to you that one day I will marry you. And I will love you unconditionally and always be there for you through thick and thin. I love you Alex, and I always will." I finished the speech and started fumbling with my fingers. When I finally gained the courage to look at her, she was silently crying. Oh god, what did I do to make her cry. I quickly pulled her into a hug and wiped her tears away, while whispering reassuring things to her.

"Thank you." Alex whispered.

"For what?" I replied in the same tone.

"Everything." She said, and I felt my cheeks heat up. "You know even in the dark, I can still see you blushing." Alex teased.

"You know in the dark, I can still see how beautiful you are." I replied. Now it was her turn for her cheeks to heat up.

"Oh just shut up an kiss me" She mumbled and I gladly placed my lips against hers. And I felt the fireworks and electricity flow through me. And for the first time in 3 months, there was a spark in my eye.
