Ponyboy's POV
I can't believe I did it. I asked her out. I'm going on a date with Austin Winston. I have to get ready. I have to tell Soda. Everything. Ugh, I sound like an excited 16 year old girl.
"Hey Soda. Guess what?" I said as I walked into the room we shared.
"What's up little buddy?" he asked.
"I did it. I asked Austin out on a date. I will be picking her up at 6:30 tonight to got to the Nightly Double." I said as chill as possible without loosing my cool. I walked over to my closet and grabbed a random grey T-shirt and an old brown leather jacket. Then walked over to my dresser and grabbed a pair of clean jeans.
"That's great! Good for you. Aww, my little boy's growing up so fast." he wined bringing me into a big bear hug. I heard him fake sniffle and it made me chuckle a little.
"Oh will you hush it! I'm not a little boy anymore, I'm a man."
"Ha! Funny! If anything you're a young man, but a man, not even close." he chuckled before leaving the room. I hopped into the shower and it took me about 30 minutes. Boy I haven't taken a shower that long I think ever. I usually take a 15 minute shower at the most. When I got out I glanced at the clock and it read 5:52. I guess on my way home I really took my time. I got dressed into my jeans and shirt before greasing my hair real nice. I walked out into the kitchen to grab a soda and maybe smoke a cig to calm my nerves. I heard a high wolf whistle come from behind me. When I turned I saw Dally. Aw shit. I completely forgot Austin was his little sister. He doesn't even know I'm going on a date with her.
"Hey kid. Where ya going dressed like that?" he asked grabbing a beer out the fridge.
"No where in particular. Just the everyday night." I said. I'm not sure if he's comfortable with me going out with his sister. Not even sure if she wants him to know. Who knows what he'd do to me if he knew. Probably beat the tar outta me.
"Nah. No way you're not going anywhere normal like that."
"Yep. Just the Nightly Double."
"Ahh I see. Who's the girl?"
"What're you talking about? Why does there have to be a girl?"
"Yeah, yeah. You never dress like that Pony. And ain't no one goin to the Nightly Double like that. And if you do, you have to be with someone. I know it ain't Johnny or anyone in the gang. So there has to be a girl. Come on man, tell me. I thought we were buds." he chuckled.
"Fine. But I don't wanna hear any crap come outta your mouth."
"Hey watch ya mouth kid, 'fore I gotta beat the tar outta ya." he said holding up a finger to my face.
"I asked Austin out on a date to the Nightly Double. I'm picking her up in a little bit." I said taking a gulp of my Pepsi.
"You what?!" he screamed in my face.
"I told ya. I asked 'er out."
"Nah, nah. You ain't goin on a date with my sister."
"What! Hold up, Dal. Can we just talked this out? I really like her and I've been meaning to do this for a while. I ain't gonna hurt 'er. I promise." I pleaded following him into the living room. Soda was sitting on the couch.
"No. I said no, and that ain't gonna change. I don't want you dating my sister. I mean you didn't even ask me."
"Hold up Dal. You don't know how long Pony's been talkin 'bout your sister. Pretty much for as long as she's been here. Plus what's the hurt? If she don't like it she's obviously just not gonna go on another date. And what if she really likes Pony too? I've seen the way they both look at each other, and it's a fair game." Soda butted in.
