Austin's POV
Dallas just walked in. It was kind of an awkward silence for a few seconds until I decided to break it.
"So how you been these last 7 years?" I asked him.
"Umm good. You?" He did not just ask me how I've been. Idiot.
"Umm besides dad, pretty good actually. I missed you." I told him.
"Look I know I didn't really show it, but I really did miss you. And I do care about you. I want you to stay. Don't call some social worker and live the next 4 years of your life like that again. I wasn't there for you these last 7 years. I want to be there for you now." he said. Do I believe him? Does he really want me here? I mean we're not in front of his friends so there is no one to impress. I still don't know.
"Umm look Dallas. I would love to stay here and live with you, but I don't know if I believe you. I mean yesterday when I showed up you slammed the door in my face, then when I woke up you told me that you understood why dad beat me." I told him. He looked sad.
"Look. I didn't mean it. If you ask anyone about me you'll know that I'm a mean heartless person that has a cold soul. It's just my natural state of mind to be an asshole. I regret everything that I said yesterday. I regret leaving you in New York and I regret never coming back to get you. I should have known that when I didn't get a letter back that there was something wrong. I knew you cared about me, but when that happened I convinced myself you didn't." he said getting closer with every word. By the time he was done talking he was sitting on the bed with me. I felt a single tear roll down my cheek. STUPID EMOTIONS!
"Hey first rule; Winstons don't cry." he said as he wiped it away. I laughed a little. Before he could do anything else I was jumping on him with a hug. He hesitated at first but then he hugged back. I missed this. I missed talking to him, hugging him, seeing him. Just everything. I pulled away.
"I'm glad I'm staying." I told him. He immediately pulled me in for another hug. We were there hugging for a while but then pulled away. We sat there talking, catching up, making up for lost times.
"So how is it back in New York? Got friends?" he asked.
"It's good. Rough there. But it's tough here. Umm yeah I had two friends. Same as when you left. Jessie and Ashley." I told him.
"They always made a good couple." he said. Well that was awkward.
"Umm they're not, well I don't know now, but they weren't a couple. Actually Jessie and I were together." I told him. His eyes popped out of his head.
"You dated a guy that was my age? I'm the one that introduced you two. Nice job. You're fallowing in my footsteps. Don't. You don't want to end up like that. You can have a good life." he said.
"Umm yeah I guess. We really liked each other. Thought he was the one. Guess it was just some stupid girl thing wanting the perfect guy. I don't know. And it would be an honor to end up like you. I mean no rules. Do what you want. No one stands up to you. I mean who wouldn't want that. Plus you have a great group of friends form what Pony tells me. I mean I've only met the Curtis brothers and you. Besides the first time I was here." I told him. He stood up.
"Come on." he said
"What?"
"Come on. I'll introduce you to them."
"Oh I don't know. I didn't really make a good first impression. I definitely sounded like a total bitch. They're not going to like me."
"Aww come on. If they don't like you I'll beat their heads in. Plus if you want to end up like me you got to learn not to care. The guys will like you. I mean you're a mixture between the three you haven't met. You're shy like Johnny. Funny like Two-bit. Stupid like Steve." he laughed. I punched his arm. He grabbed it in pain.
"That actually hurt!"
"Teaches you not to call me stupid. Next time it won't be your arm" I said. He put his hands up in surrender. I smiled and got up. We walked out of the room. When we got to the living room everyone was in there. Except Darry. Guessing he's at work.
There was this guy with a Mickey Mouse shirt on sitting on the ground watching TV. Mickey Mouse was on. He was eating chocolate cake and drinking beer. His hair was a rusted color and he had sideburns. His eyes didn't leave the TV when we walked in. Guessing that's Two-bit.
Then there was this guy with chocolate cake all over his face. His teeth were a little messed up and his nose was crooked. Steve. Pony said that both Darry and Dallas have broken his nose before. I forgot why. Knowing Dally there probably wasn't a reason. Or he insulted him. But Darry, something had to have happened.
Lastly there was a boy who was small. Tan skin and jet black hair. I couldn't see his eyes because he wouldn't look at me. Just kind of looked everywhere else besides me. He had a jean jacket on. That's definitely Johnny. He had a scar going from his temple to his cheek. Pony said that he got jumped a while back. He also said that his parents beat him. Same as my dad. So the scar had to be form either one.
Pony got up and walked over. He looked concerned. I guess Dallas and I had been in there for a while. He came over and I smiled to let him know I was fine. He seemed to understand because his face softened. Dallas didn't seem to notice.
"Ok guys this is Austin. Austin the one with the Mickey Mouse shirt is Two-bit. The one with the weird nose is Steve. And yes the nose is from me. And the one on the couch is Johnny. I'm going out for a smoke, I'll be back in a sec. Guys try not to be idiots." Dallas said before he walked out.
"So your mini Winston. You like Dally?" Steve asked.
"Umm somewhat yeah. If you're asking if I'll make your nose worse that's a yes. But not for no reason. You give me a reason, then you'll have a problem." I told them while going to sit on the couch. When I did Johnny flinched as if he was scared I was going to hurt him. I guess he just needed to get used to me. Like a dog. You have to give him time to warm up to you. He does kind of remind me of a lost puppy.
"Yep they're related. Definitely related." Two-bit laughed. Now I understand his name.
"Oh shove it Keith." I said. Pony told me that his real name was Keith and that he hates the name. I knew it would aggravate him.
"Hey how'd you know that's my name?" he whined. I laughed.
"Pony told me about all you guys yesterday. You guys are an interesting bunch."
"You bet we are. WOW!" yep that was Steve. We all laughed. Dally came back in and sat on the couch next to me.
"So did you talk?" he asked.
"Yep. I think I'm going to like it here." I said before I leaned into Dallas's chest and he pulled me closer. I honestly I could stay with my brother like this all day. It's just like old times.
