Alan unsheathed his sword slowly and everyone followed. He moved his left hand behind him to signal the men to move back. The Night Slayer came closer, feet thumping on the ground and arms dragging alongside them. Gregors eyes were wide, his chest heaving and his brain panicking. It was like that same night was happening over again and he couldn't focus, he couldn't think, and that's when he realised that he was having a panic attack, in front of a colossal creature. Those nightmares he had in the dungeons were a reality now, he was starting to feel light headed and nauseous, his skin prickled with goose bumps as the Night Slayer let out a low growl from its throat.
Gregor stumbled almost falling to the ground until Abe steadied him "Greg, breathe, you need to help us fight." He encouraged. The Slayer raised its arm, ready to strike at Alan, and swatted sideways. Alan was quick enough to dodge the long arm, but Gregor was not in his right mind. A few seconds before the arm could strike Gregor, Abe shoved him out of the way, landing them both on the ground. Gregors stumbled back up, shook his head and steadied his breathing.
"Thank you Abe."
He transformed his arm, gritting his teeth at the pain that came with it and readied his stance, crouching down slightly and focused on the Slayer that was now turning towards him, sensing an offensive energy. He knitted his eyebrows together in focus and once the Slayer was completely facing him, he lunged up at it, gashing it across the face. The Slayer screeched in pain and fell to the ground in a heap.
Everyone stared at Gregor in shock. "That was easy." Aden said. Before anyone could reply, a loud scream was heard from the back. Everyone turned around, and saw tens of Night Slayers. One Night Slayer was quick to grab one of the men and dig its teeth deep into the man's abdomen. The man's eyes widened, his scream turned into a growl, and the black of his eyes swirled into a bright red colour. Soon his entire skin started turning grey and his shoulders started to tower over his head, his head followed after. His arms and legs grew twice their normal size and his eyes lost their humanity. He was a Night Slayer. He was gone. Another Night Slayer grabbed another man by the neck in the blink of an eye.
"Run!"
They all started running deeper into the forest, hearing multiple deep growls coming from behind. Running was difficult when all they could see in front was the dark shadows of trees behind thick white fog. Gregor sprinted over the dead leaves, keeping his eyes on Alan and Aden who where in front of him, and Abe who was running beside him. He weaved through the trees, avoiding and jumping over roots and branches, the forest seemed endless behind the mist. He turned his head only slightly to see the men running and the Slayers following close. Gregor stared in horror as some men fell and disappeared beneath the feet of both humans and Night Slayers, screaming in agony. He swallowed thickly when he saw more Slayers emerge from the back. These were the same men that just fell.
Gregor was surprised to see how close the Night Slayers were, considering how slow they were when they walked, it almost seemed like they were floating. He blinked a few times, getting rid of the dryness in his eyes and restoring his vision. He squinted and tried to see past the fog, he could barely see the back of Aden's head.
The more he ran, the more it felt endless, before his feet reached an edge, a dead end, he gasped sharply, and waved his arms about to try and balance himself, but Abe caught him from the back of his collar and pulled him back. He looked down and couldn't see anything from the fog. Gregor snapped his neck to Alan "What do we do now?!"
"We jump." Alan said seriously.
"What? We're going to die."
"Would you rather turn into a Night Slayer?"
The men behind them were starting to push out of fear. The loose ground under Gregors feet crumbled down, falling and disappearing beneath the fog. Alan nodded at him and he nodded back. He closed his eyes and exhaled before taking a leap off the edge.
