I meet Adam at Bates Park. Well, I'm go to meet him there. He said to get there at three, and since I'm horrible at time management, I came earlier. Twenty minutes earlier, which is a while to wait but not too long.
I'm sitting at one of the park benches near a pond. The weather is warm and a nice breeze goes by once in a while which gives off the feeling of summer. For a Saturday afternoon, there's not a lot of people here. There are a few women walking with friends or with their kids as well as some guys running or jogging. One of the guys who is jogging on the path that passes by where I'm sitting slows down. As he gets closer, I see that I know him.
It's Isaac.
As soon as I recognize that it's him, I quickly pull out my phone and pretend to be doing something on it. I really really don't want him to notice me. I don't particularly like seeing people from school unless I've planned to. I don't think I should be too worried though since we've barely spoken to each other besides the English assignment.
Unfortunately, he sees me and decides to sit next to me.
"Hey, Amara." He says with a smile.
"Hey." I smile back.
"What are you up to?"
"Oh, you know. Just enjoying the day while I wait for someone."
"Who?"
"Adam."
"Ulrich?"
I nod. "What about you?"
I realized that was a dumb question since clearly, he was here to jog as I had just seen him do.
"Just on a run. It helps me clear my mind."
"Lots going on?" Another dumb question, and kinda personal.
He nods.
"Better or worse than how it was on Monday? Or, I guess technically Tuesday."
"About the same. But what can ya do."
"Mhm."
We fall silent. It's a bit awkward but not entirely. I looked at my lap because I felt weird looking at him when we weren't talking. It would just seem like I was staring at him or something.
"Hey, guys."
I look up. It's Adam.
"Hey!"
He smiles at me and looks over at Isaac who just waves lamely.
"I should get going," Isaac starts to stand. "I'll see you guys around."
"Bye." Adam and I say as we watch Isaac turn around and continue his jog.
