After a couple of dull days go by, it's finally time for Friendsgiving. I'm not entirely sure what to expect but from what I gather, it'll just be the four of us so it won't be too bad.
I'm currently standing in front of my mirror examining my outfit. It's very cute (in my opinion) and goes with Fall. It's also simple, and appropriate for meeting Brett's parents for the first time. He said we might only see his dad as he will be the one doing the grilling, but one can ever be too sure.
I grab my belongings and head into the kitchen to get the Rosa de Jamaica. After bidding my family goodbye, I'm off to the races.
Brett's house is actually kind of nice. Not that I thought it wouldn't be, but I didn't know what to expect from a guy who I didn't really start talking to until this year. Besides, I'm used to just going to Emery's house. His house is the typical all American athletic guy house except it's not as unnecessarily large. Isaac's already there when I arrive; he's the one who opened the door.
"Hey." I nod.
"Hey," he responds. Seeing that I am carrying the beverage, he continues, "You can just out that in the fridge. Follow me."
Walking into the kitchen, I see that there are chips, celery, and soda on the counter if anyone were to get hungry while waiting on the main meal.
I put the drink in the fridge and follow Isaac to the backyard. Brett's dad is already in the grill while his wife is setting up chairs.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson." I greet.
"Hi!" Mrs. Wilson stops what she's doing and comes to hug me. "Oh, you must be Amara. It's so great to meet you!" She says, pulling away.
"It's nice to meet you too."
"And you must be Emery!" She exclaims, looking over my shoulder. "I've heard so much about you! It's so nice to finally meet you." Mrs. Wilson embraces Emery.
While that's happening, I walk over to Isaac and Mr. Wilson.
"Nice to meet you Amara." Mr. Wilson sticks his hand out for me to shake which I do.
"Nice to meet you too," I smile. "Where's Brett?"
Mr. Wilson chuckles. "Probably still in his room trying to figure out the right shirt to wear."
"I'll go check on him." Isaac tells us before going back into the house.
Emery comes over to us as well as Brett's mother and we all get to chatting. We didn't have to do much of that though since a few seconds later Isaac returns with Brett.
"Hey Emery." He grins and gives her a hug before turning to me. "Amara."
"Hey." I give a small wave.
"Well, I think these are almost done so why don't you all start getting settled?" Mr. Wilson suggests.
Brett, Isaac, and Emery start going to where the seats are and I head back into the house to start pouring the Rosa de Jamaica into cups.
"Amara honey you don't have to do that. Go and sit down, I can take it from here." Brett's mom says making me jump. I hadn't heard her come inside.
"Oh, no, it's fine. I feel weird if I don't help; my mom kinda drilled that into me." I respond sheepishly.
"That's nothing to be embarrassed about dear. Here, I'll take two of the cups and you can bring the other two. Brian can come get the drink."
I nod and we head back out. I notice there's only four chairs which I correctly assume are for the four of us since it's Friendsgiving. Still, I feel weird that we're not including Brett's parents. They may not care or take it personally since it's Friendsgiving, but it kind of makes me feel a bit bad.
