It's been about three weeks since Emery came over to escape family troubles - three weeks since I hung out with Adam and spoke to Isaac at the park. Nothing has really happened in these past few weeks, it's just been the same everyday routine.
Isaac and I still sit next to each other in English but haven't really had the chance to talk at all since Ms. Harper uses all the class time. I enjoy the class though, so it's not a big deal.
Emery's brother hasn't been screwing up lately - or if he has, it isn't too much of a problem. She hasn't been frowning or angrily eating her lunch, so I guess that's a good sign.
Adam and I have continued to text each other and talk in the hall after History, but haven't really gotten an opportunity to hang out again.
I'm in study hall attempting to do work. No one's being too distracting and I've gotten some things done but at this point I've kinda given up on the homework grind and decided to finish it at home. On the bright side, study hall is almost over.
Like everyone else, I was scrolling through my phone. That is, until someone sat in the chair next to me.
                              "Hey. You're Amara, right?"
I look to see that Brett Wilson is the one who decided to sit next to me.
"You know we've been going to the same school since Kindergarten, right?," is my response.
"Yeah, but we've never really talked. I was just making sure."
                              "Well, indeed. It's me, Amara."
I wait for him to say something but he doesn't.
"So...why'd you come over here?," I ask.
"Do I need a reason to?"
                              I give him a look.
"Okay, okay. I know you've been talking to Isaac," he starts.
                              "We've only talked twice."
                              "Yeah, well..."
"Brett, why are you talking to me?" I'm not trying to be rude, but as he said, we've never really talked. It's senior year, so why start now?
"Okay well, I was just wondering if you wanted to have lunch with us on Friday."
                              "Why would I do that?"
"Listen, I just think it'd be good for us all to be friends. You, me, Isaac...Emery." He says her name quietly.
"Uh-huh. I see. This is really just about Emery."
                              "What? No..."
                              I raise my eyebrows.
"Fine, yes. Will you please have lunch with Isaac and I on Friday and bring Emery?"
                              "Okay."
                              Brett smiles.
"Just one question: have you ever talked to her?"
