[DAY ONE]
7:38 AM
"Adam, c'mon man! Hurry up," Brett yelled, honking the car horn at 7 AM.
"Brett! Stop that, you're going to wake up the whole neighborhood," Zoe reprimanded.
After Valentine's Day, things went back to normal for the most part. We are officially on our last spring break as high schoolers and we decided to spend a few days at Brett's lakehouse. Emery, Isaac, and I were of course invited without question, but we had two additions; Zoe and Adam. Adam was a given since he and Emery are dating, and for some reason I invited Zoe. It was a last-minute decision that shocked us all, but so far has not been seen to be a bad idea.
Brett picked Isaac up first, then Zoe, me, and Emery, leaving us to wait on Adam. We have been sitting outside of his house for the last twenty minutes. We're only going away for four days and Brett made it clear that time is money. I don't know why he's in a big rush since the lakehouse is only an hour away.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," Adam emerges from his house, closing the door behind him and jogging down the steps.
He waits for me to switch from the back to the middle so that he can have as much solo Emery time as he can get in a minivan.
"Okay, it takes approximately one hour and twelve minutes to get to lake Wilson. We'll get there a little after that since we are going to stop to get breakfast and have potential bathroom breaks. Everyone ready?" Brett glances around the car, waiting for us to nod. "Alrighty, hold on tight my friends."
8:20 AM
Don't want you in my bloodline, yuh, just wanna have a good time yuh, and no need --
Ariana's singing was cut off by Brett turning off the car. We are parked at Waffle House and from the looks of the empty parking lot, we're the only ones here.
"God am I glad that's over. If I hear another 'yuh', it'll be too soon," Adam groans.
"Oh come on, it was not that bad. You just don't appreciate talent." Emery defends.
"Yeah, okay," he says.
We climb out of the car and stretch our limbs before heading inside. Somehow, the six of us manage to squeeze into a booth.
"What can I get started for ya?" The waiter asks.
Emery, Zoe, and Isaac all order the All-Star breakfast, while Adam, Brett, and I order a chocolate chip waffle and eggs. Deciding that it is not the brightest idea to have six people at a table with orders that require more than one plate, we split up. The All-Stars go to the booth behind us while we waffle lovers stay where we are.
"So, where are you guys committed and what are you going to study?" I ask pouring syrup onto my waffles. It is a mundane question, but to be fair, I don't know much about Brett or Adam's plans.
"I'm going to the University of Wyoming to study Agricultural Business," Adam tells us.
"Oh wow. Any particular reason why?"
"I've always been interested in managing my own ranch one day, as well as helping other people in doing the same."
"Cool," I say, turning my attention to Brett. "What about you?"
"I'm actually taking a gap year."
"Really? That's so cool. What are you going to do?"
"Well, this might lame but, I'm going to work at a new bakery that's going to be an extension of Quinn's and it's early now, but there's talk of them opening international stores. So when that happens, I'll be going to wherever they open and make sure the place runs smoothly." Brett shrugs.
