"Here."
I'm in the middle of getting books out of my locker for my next class when Isaac comes up to me. Confused, I look at him and see that he's holding something.
"What's that?"
"A book, duh." He playfully rolls his eyes.
"I see that but..."
"I just saw it and thought you might like it."
I take it from his hands and see the title: Dreamland.
"A Sarah Dessen novel?"
"Yeah, well. I don't know...I just - yeah maybe this was a bad idea. Just forget I said anything." Isaac reaches for the book.
"Nah-uh," I pull it away from him. "It's fine. Thank you. I'll start it as soon as I can." I smile.
He nods and gives a small smile back. "I've been meaning to - "
"Don't you kids have classes to get to?" Mr. Shaffer interrupts, walking towards us.
"Yes." I hear myself say and internally roll my eyes at myself.
"Then stop frolicking about." Mr. Shaffer huffs.
"I'll find you later, okay?" Isaac tells me.
"Yeah, sure." I say, walking off to class.
12:30 PM
There's laughter at the table across from mine. It wouldn't be a big deal, and it's not really, except it wasn't at a phone, joke, or a story. It was coming coming from Zoe who was laughing obnoxiously loud and kept glancing at me. Sometimes she'd glance at Isaac. It was kind of like that scene from Camp Rock when Tess laughed at Mitchie at lunch after she exposed her to Shane.
"Why does she keep looking at me?" I ask aloud.
"Who? Zoe?" Emery questions to which I nod.
"Ignore her. She's probably just talking about what everyone has been talking about today."
"...Which is?"
"How do you not know? I would've thought you'd heard about it by now. Everyone knows."
"Apparently not everyone."
"Isaac's latest hookup." She states.
"So?"
"So? So?!" Emery gasps. "No, wait. I don't know. Those things are always a "big deal"."
"Well, what makes them a "big deal"?" I copy her air quotes around the words 'big deal'.
"The fact that he's the one who's allegedly having the most sex in school. As far as anyone knows at least, that's why I said allegedly. And it's always women in their twenties."
I scrunch my nose in disgust. "Ew."
"Yuh, I know."
"Well, I mean who cares? At least it's not women in their thirties and higher and at the end of the day, it's his life. Right?"
"I guess." She shrugs.
"Anyways, what's going on with you and Brett?"
"Nothing really. We're just friends."
"Oh please. Do not hit me with that." I give her a look.
"What? It's true!"
"Whatever."
