"I don't know if I should be, but I'm worried about him." Emery frowns.

We're in Psychology right now and while we're supposed to be learning, Mr. Yates is using the lesson to analyze his past girlfriends in attempt to figure out what went wrong.

Emery still doesn't know anything about Jordan because he's still at my house. I feel bad, and I feel like I should tell her, but I promised Jordan I wouldn't. It's only been a week, but I'm planning on talking to him about it soon. Maybe I'll do it today.

"Amara? Are you listening?"

"What? Oh, yeah. I'm sure he's fine. He is Jordan after all; he can take care of himself."

"Yeah, barely." She mutters.

"How're your parents holding up?"

"They're...they're not. I don't even know, to be honest. It makes them a bit more stressed than normal."

"You never did tell me what Jordan did this time."

"I don't really wanna talk about it yet." Emery smiles sadly.

"Don't worry. I'll be ready when you are." I reassure her. She smiles gratefully and I give her a hug.

2:59 PM

"Home sweet home." I say when I pull into the driveway. Xavier and Rosie didn't even wait for me to completely park before getting out.

When I walk into my room, Jordan is sitting on my bed, holding an envelope. His head is down as he's staring at it, almost as if he's been doing that for hours.

"Hey." I greet, setting my book-bag down.

"Amara, what is this?" He holds it up, and it takes me  moment to realize exactly what the envelope entails.

"Amara." Jordan repeats, with an edge to his voice.

I close my door and lean against it, looking anywhere but at him.

"Amara Noella Holland, neither of us are going anywhere until you explain to me why a guy who I've never seen before showed up today a few minutes before you came home and was looking for you to give you this." He stands and waves around the envelope, stopping to pull out the money that's inside.

"It's uh, it's from Books & Beyond. It's my payment." I spew a shitty lie.

"Bullshit. I'm not stupid; try again."

I sigh.

"It's nothing Jordan. I don't really see how it's any of your business anyways."

"You may be right, but I deem it my business because not only are you my sister's best friend, but you're helping me out in letting me stay here, therefore I'm going to help you with whatever this is." Jordan looks me in the eyes with so much intensity and determination that I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen once before, when he was trying to get Emery to stop dating this guy who constantly played with her feelings.
