It took some talking, but Alphys was convinced to let Aida go and be of help to Asriel. She made the robot to protect all true love and help others find their significant others. The robot was already a success with many young Monsters and humans who needed help discussing their feelings. She started out small as an introduction but it got better when Mettaton recommended her for the viewers who had a hard time expressing their true feelings towards another.
Asriel began to go over to Aida for his sessions to practice courtship and learn when and what type of move to make. He was rather shy at some points, but the girl was patient with him. There were times she had to be a little firmer so that he would follow through. They mostly worked out in the backyard.
Love was a very natural thing to feel, and only true and pure love could come when felt by the heart and Soul. To help get into the mood, the backyard was blanketed with grass and small flowers. A tree was there as well along with a small pond. Alphys had the backyard made not just due to how she may often use the pond for collecting minerals and research, but it may do well for Aida's development.
For the most part, Aida began with trying to help Asriel grow some confidence. The goat boy was extremely nervous and had a tendency to stutter so they first had to work on that. She had to do it in such a way that he could maintain his overall personality but also be able to atleast speak up.
"What a girl really wants is for you to be yourself" she told him one time. "They want to love the real you"
At the same time, they found that he has his strong points. He was kind, calm, and can be quite the charmer. With a little help, she was able to show him that he had good qualities already and just needed to know about courting.
"Things work rather different up here. Whether you end up with a human or a Monster, you must know that relationships are taken slowly" Aida told him as she picked a small daisy.
"Like, how slow?"
"Well, you know how Miss Chara was like when you first met?"
He nodded. "She was so shy and scared"
"And when she got used to you?"
"We were close as siblings"
"Exactly, it's nearly the same thing for love. It doesn't come all at once or at first sight. Statistics say that only a small fraction is really from first sight and last. But all love starts small. It begins with being just friends, and then you grow closer until you begin to develop feelings for each other. Then one day one or the other will muster up the courage to confess"
"When will I know if she's the right one?"
She offered him a kind smile. "Everyone finds their true love eventually, you just never know when or where"
He nodded in understanding before moving over to envelope her in a hug when she flinched and moved away. She gestured she didn't want to before he just gave a kind smile. "I just wanted to say thank you"
She seemed rather surprised but looked down before going monotone once more. "It's my purpose"
It did seem rather peculiar with how Aida acted with him. If he tried to get close to her, she would pull away quickly, even though it was just in a friend sense. She began to teach him about what lines to use and when to use them. There were times when they had to role-play, but he ended up becoming a mess. They did try with other girls once, but he couldn't muster up the courage to even speak to them.
"Do you have a girl in mind?" she asked him one time.
"N-no, n-not really, atleast not y-yet I guess" he fumbled with the words.
"I see. Should you have one and you believe she may be it, perhaps you can show her to me. My Meant-to-Be System will tell if she's the one"
Needless to say, it was rather humorous just to watch. They often found themselves put in rather awkward situations. One time they had to practice giving a gift to the girl, in this case, flowers. Aida had a bouquet of pink roses ready.
"Hey, I heard you liked roses so...I bought these just for you" he did his best to maintain his voice.
She took the bouquet as he handed them gently as taught before she sniffed one. "Thank you. You're very sweet"
"It's no big deal"
She then nodded before setting them down. "Well done as well, you didn't fumble and you carried on smoothly"
"Thanks to you"
She glanced at him before speaking again. "I only told you how to act the part and speak. You did the rest"
He gave a smile before walking over to the tree in the yard and sitting down. He pat the spot beside him, gesturing her over. She hesitated for a bit before moving over. They sat in a bit of awkward silence before a butterfly fluttered over and landed on a daisy infront of them. Asriel stuck out a finger and let it climb onto it. He slowly brought it up to his face before it fluttered and tickled his nose. He watched it fly away before turning back to Aida. She seemed to be in awe as she saw it fly off.
"How does that work?" she mumbled.
"Hmm?"
"I was wondering: How do you let a butterfly do that?"
"I don't know. I guess it just seemed natural"
"Natural" she repeated. "Perhaps so"
He looked at her as she stared off into the distance and watched as another butterfly came over. She seemed to look at it with...what was it? Envy? Confusion?
"Perhaps that may be why it doesn't happen when I do it. I'm not natural. I'm not normal"
So that's why. She was a robot that wondered about being human. A robot body was an advantage as when it is destroyed, it could be fixed and repaired or even rebuilt once more. But it comes with a downside. You'd feel like you were just a copy, easily replaceable. You were so close to the world, and yet still so far. You'd like to be part of the world, but you couldn't. Not all of her was here. To Alphys and Mettaton, she was irreplaceable, but perhaps that wasn't what it was in her mind.
He sighed before moving a bit closer to her. He didn't want to make her pull away when he was trying to help. "Move your finger slowly"
She tilted her head to the side. "Pardon?"
"To the butterfly, you have to be slow and gentle. Go on, I'll just watch"
She hesitated but complied. She seemed rather surprised that it didn't fly away. In fact, when she was in close proximity, it crawled over and went to her finger. She then glanced over to Asriel, who only nodded. She slowly brought it to her face, smiling a bit as it stayed. She moved her hand until her palm faced up and let it settle there before gently blowing on it to make it fly to the goat with her. He giggled as butterfly wings brushed his face for the second time today.
"Thank you" she spoke as it flew away. "That was lovely"
"No problem. I just thought you needed some help with it" he then glanced over to the bouquet. "You've done a lot for me already"
He knew that Aida was very fond of the pink roses. Those very blooms came straight from the rosebush in this yard. Alphys once took her out sightseeing and they went to a botanic garden. She found that she took a liking to that particular plant and bought one so she could enjoy it when it blooms. The rosebush was currently with only one left with all others un-bloomed. She wasn't one to pick them off, but she did so for his sake.
She followed his gaze. "They'll bloom again one day"
He walked over to the bouquet before taking a flower and tucking it behind her ear. "And so will you"
Was it his imagination or did he suddenly glimpse what looked like a spark in her eyes? Before he could look a little further, she looked away. "Hopefully, and thank you for the talk"
"If you feel like you need one again, just come to either me, Chara, or Frisk. We're friends"
"Friends" she repeated as if it were a new, foreign word. "Yes, I will come to my friends for help"
