For a long time, Asriel had been going to Aida for his lessons in courtship. They began to bond a little over their acts and Aida came to recognize him as a friend just as she had for Chara and Frisk. The goat was getting better with his speaking and overcoming nervousness. One time, they got permission and used Alphys' invention of Virtual Reality. It took some getting used to, but they finally pulled through.
When he was not at the Lab with her, he was out in the Temmie Village as Flowey visiting the same Monster. He was always happy to see her, and the feeling was mutual. They would stay together for hours on end before he had to return as Asriel.
This constant switch kept on going on until one day, when he came over to the Lab, Aida was currently out with Mettaton. Alphys then decided that she may as well check on his Soul. She wanted to know how well it was doing. But they were frightened by what they had seen.
Due to the constant detachment and switching, the Soul was beginning to weaken. If he were to continue this cycle, it would break and he would permanently be Flowey once more. She asked him why he had been doing it, and he had to confess that he had been going about as Flowey with a friend. Alphys told him that she could fix the Soul, but he had to go and enjoy his last moments as the flower.
Asriel never thought he wouldn't have liked the sound of that. Being Flowey was a torment, but somehow it hurt him to hear this would be his last time. He would have to say goodbye Temmie, but she was the flower's friend, not his. Yet, it still hurt.
He had no choice but to agree to the terms.
He detached from the Soul and left before Aida could see him. Flowey burrowed as fast as he could to Temmie Village. He made a beeline for the familiar Temmie's door and knocked. When she opened the door, he probably looked really frazzled as she seemed extremely worried.
They went out to the park and stayed until it was nightfall. They had a picnic quite similar to the one they had back in the Underground. They just ate and spoke together as though nothing was wrong. It broke his heart to see her so happy when something bad was about to happen.
She was so innocent. She deserved better than someone who killed so many in different timelines. She deserved better than a killer. She would be better off without him. She couldn't be the one to break their friendship, and he didn't have very long now anyway. He had bound her to him for long enough. He had to set her free.
Taking a deep breath, Flowey gathered up his courage. "Temmie, there's something I have to tell you"
"Yes?"
"I...I...I have to go..."
She tilted her head in confusion before smiling again. "That's okay. Tem knows you will be back"
"No" he shook his head before looking down, letting his petals cover his face. He couldn't let her see he was getting upset. "I can't stay, Temmie. I can't...I can't be your friend!"
She was surprised at him, but tried to pull a smile. "Flowey, what's wrong? If something's the matter, you can tell me"
Why did she make this so hard? Even resorting to her serious, perfect, fluent English! "Don't you get it?! I can't stay here! I can't be your friend! I'm leaving, and I'm never coming back! You hear me?! There's nothing wrong! If anything's wrong, it's me!"
"Flowey..."
"I'm going" he turned about face, ready to burrow away when he suddenly felt her soft paws wrap around his stem body. He was ready to yell and glare at her when he heard what sound she was making now.
She was whimpering, and sniffling. He felt a few drops of water suddenly fell to the ground which his roots absorbed. She was crying.
"Why?" she whimpered. "Please, Flowey, don't leave me...if it's something I did...I'm sorry...please...don't leave me..."
She wanted him to stay. For his entire life as Flowey, he never had anyone who wanted him to stay. He either killed them or they were too ignorant or some may even be the one to make the first move. He never had anyone who cared about him. He even acted just as cold to her upon meeting. Yet, she still wanted him to stay.
"You'll be better off without me. Have a nice life, Temmie" he spoke before pushing her off him and burrowing down.
Even as she cried out for him, he kept burrowing away. Even as she thumped on the ground, he kept going. Even as her voice faded away, he didn't look back. He bit back tears, only stopping and resurfacing when he had left completely. He then finally let it out. He didn't know he would cry again. He thought the only person he would cry for would've been Chara, but he was wrong. He had cried for Temmie.

Asriel walked in the pitch blackness of the dark emptiness. He had pulled through with taking back the fixed Soul on the condition he wouldn't detach from it again. For some reason, he felt bad. He felt Flowey's guilt and sorrow on him. That couldn't be, could it? They were different. They were the polar opposites of each other.
He walked on, knowing what was going on. There were times that he would fall asleep and he would come here. He would meet up with the demonic flower and they would speak with each other. Often, they would fight and argue about their lives.
He wasn't expecting to find the flower, head down and face covered in petals. He heard sniffling and soft crying coming from there. It was shocking to find. Flowey never really cried when they met up. What happened with Temmie really hurt him to the point that he didn't care if his polar opposite would see him in this state. He steadily walked over to him, bending down to his eye level when he was close enough. He felt sorry for the poor guy. He pat him gently in an attempt to comfort him.
Flowey spoke softly. "I hope you're happy now"
"You have to understand, Flowey" he tried to sound subtle. "I had to. You said it yourself you wanted to die. I have a life, Flowey"
The flower only nodded before disappearing.
The goat boy never thought it would happen, but he felt guilt for hurting the flower and the Monster he was connected to.
