Monsters would sometimes have a time when they would like to show others what went on in their minds. They would hold onto the other person and allow themselves to drift from their bodies before entering what looked like a combination of each other's minds.
Asriel had been down in this part of subconscious before, though not entirely. The first time was when he and Chara had that mental bond when he was Flowey. It still remained, but wasn't used that much. He never thought he would use this state of mind with another Monster.
Asriel looked around the blank landscape before noticing the faint light ahead. He ran over to it before finally colliding with Aida. The robot girl was staring solemnly into the distance. When she noticed him, she turned around.
"Mother told me a lot about this place, never thought I'd go here one day" she sighed. "Why are we here?"
"I told you, Aida. We're here to help you. You blame yourself for Temmie's death and it looks like this place is our best chance for some closure in that chapter of your life. But to do that, you have to let me in. Tell me about Temmie, her memories, how they make you feel. It's just us. I'm all ears"
She hesitated a bit before allowing the memories to fill around the blank landscape. They could see all of the dead Monster's memories, contained in small bubbles floating about. They varied in size depending on how precious they were. They wandered around for a bit, passing glances at each before Aida stopped at one in particular and took hold of it.
"I thought it would go away, how I felt. But it wouldn't. Every time I try, it always came back. I used to think Temmie was just any Temmie with Soul, but now I was wrong. She's me, in a sense. She's always been a side of me. And I can't forget how I broke Flowey's heart after how he was so lonely for so long"
She showed him the memory. It was the day Temmie died. He could see Flowey's distressed face, how he kept trying to be strong even when he was already crying. Temmie's small, furry paw at his face as the vision began to darken. It hurt so much to see her that way.
"I made him promise to be happy for me" she sniffled.
"That you'd met again perhaps in another life" he continued.
"I enjoyed his company"
"He didn't want you to go"
"She...I...told him...Temmie loved him...and before going away, I heard him say..."
"Temmie, you're an idiot"
The realization hit her swiftly. How he spoke when he said that, the way he acted, it couldn't be, could it? She looked over to see Asriel smiling before speaking again. "But you were my idiot"
She shook her head. "No"
"Yeah, and you still are"
She stared at him, unable to comprehend what was happening. This couldn't be true, could it? It then dawned on her that on the day that Flowey said goodbye to Temmie was the same day he didn't show up for their usual lessons. She tentatively walked a bit closer to him and managed to stare him in the eye. She could see his memories and Flowey's altogether.
"You're...you're Flowey?"
"Hello, Temmie"
"This...this can't be...I...is it really...I'm not dreaming, am I?"
"If you were, then I'd hate it as much as you would"
She looked down, trying to hide her crying again. He couldn't believe it as much as she could. They found each other again, no matter what the circumstances. They could be together again. They could start over again. This wasn't like how he wished it to be for his first love, with all the courtship she showed him but it was enough. This was good enough. Who cares if this wasn't like how they practiced. What matters is she was here, with him, now. And he wasn't letting her go again.
They soon came out of the subconscious landscape and back to reality. He opened his eyes to find her looking down shyly. She seemed to be shaking. The glow in her neck was back. It sounded like she was about to cry.
"I'm not...afraid" she managed. Her appearance betrayed her words.
He gently placed a hand up to her cheek, parting her brown hair slightly. He then cupped her face, bringing her to look up to him. He was trying to be slow with her, lest her fear kicked in again.
"I'm not afraid...I'm just..."
"Excited?"
She nodded. "I can start over. I can be with you again. I can be happier for you. I..." she sniffled. "Why...why am I crying?"
"You're just happy, Aida. It's okay"
She managed a smile through her tears. "Thank you...for keeping me yours..."
"I wouldn't want another, Aida"
She collapsed onto him, hugging him tightly. He returned it, wrapping his arms around her shaking form. He felt her small, mechanical hands clenched tightly at the fabric of his shirt. Her face was buried into his shoulder.
"Aida?" he looked down, alarmed when he heard her crying. She looked up at him, her eyes tearing up but she was smiling.
"I'm sorry...I'm just so happy...I can't stop...I...please don't leave me..." she buried her face into his chest. He could her murmur, "I'm not afraid...I'm not afraid...I'm not afraid..."
"Don't be scared. You don't have to be anymore. I'll always be here. I've got you, Aida. I've got you" he whispered into her ear.
She soon was able to gather herself and looked up to him. He knew what she wanted to do. He had to let her know it was okay. He moved a hand up to her cheek and raised her up to meet with his face. She was close enough that she only had to move a bit more before she could close the gap. She hesitated for a bit, looking away before she leaned in.
It was a treat like no other for him. Her lips were cold due to her robotic form, but at the same time they were electrical. It didn't hurt. It was just so...calming. They held on for a bit before parting away slightly. He blushed bright red while her eyes glowed pink. It was funny to see that was her version of a blush. Their foreheads pressed together as they held onto each other.
Eventually, Aida fell asleep. Asriel picked up and carried her back to her home. Alphys was happy to find her daughter was alright. He managed to bring her up to her room. He was going to leave, but she wouldn't let him go. He settled down into a position comfortable for both of them on her bed. She was at peace in her sleep. He brushed her hair out of the way before planting a small kiss on her forehead, earning a small smile.
Before he fell asleep, he whispered those three words. "I love you"
And he swore he heard her speak as well. "I love you too"
