Everyday a Little Death

There were times when they thought their lives were all stories. Then again, since Frisk's arrival, when hasn't it been? Things sometimes get worse before they get better. And sometimes things better before they get worse.

Asriel was getting a constant hit of guilt and anger. Flowey's influence still resided in him, but only as a nuisance. He thought the flower was probably just angry about the ordeal that occurred. It was hard to concentrate on school with him trying to speak to him mentally while the teacher was discussing. It was even harder when he was having his sessions.

Oh sure, you have a life. But look what I had!

It was just one Monster, Flowey

That Monster meant everything to me!

Really? I thought you hated her because you found her annoying

I guess I was wrong

Monsters often have this thing which allows them to create something called a Soul Bond. It's when they found someone they really like and value, they bring out their Souls and allow them to bond together. It's with a little sting, but the after effect is worth it. They will feel a connection towards each other, and know how the other is doing, including their current emotion or whereabouts. It's natural for parents and children, but those with lovers do it on their own accord. Flowey had one with Chara, but it wasn't expected that he made one with Temmie.

One last time? Please, I'm begging you

She'll think you'll never leave her again.

Then go up to the Temmie Village and to her house. Let me see her through a distance. Please, I need to know how she is.

He got tired of Flowey's constant pleading. He finally softened when he saw how much the flower cared about the Monster. If he was willing to even cry and show he was going soft, then she must really be worth it to him. He went one day to the Village, only to find that the house where Temmie lived in was empty. He checked her shop but she wasn't there. He took notice of something else: Some of the other Temmies were not in their usual spirits; they were all sad.

"Excuse me" he called one. "Can you tell me where the Temmie that lived here is?"

"Tat Tem in hospital. Tems will miss Tem" they told him, looking down solemnly.

At the panic, Asriel took a risk. He detached the Soul, leaving it with Alphys to go and find out why the Temmie was in the hospital. Flowey burrowed as fast as he could until he made it there. He pulled himself up into his wheeled pot before going in. He was shocked to find what had happened to his Temmie.

Following a week after their last meeting, she ran into an accident. She began to seem weakened and lost her usual cheery demeanor. It made the neighboring Temmies worried when they took notice that she seemed to act rather slower than normal. One time, in the Shop, she had to get up to take something from the shelf when she took a long time to do so. She seemed to have difficulty with getting up alone. When she did, she seemed like she just ran a marathon. Then, one day, she was working when she suddenly collapsed.

Something was wrong with her Soul. Her body began to deteriorate slowly and she was slowly turning to Dust. It was starting from the inside. The doctors had a hard time to find what was going on. They said it was almost as though the Soul was tearing her apart by consuming her. The cause was unknown.

He was led to her room and was shocked at the state the poor Monster was in. She was hooked up to multiple machines in an attempt to keep her alive. One showed her heartbeat, and it was very weak. She had a gas mask on her muzzle as her chest went up and down regularly to show she was breathing. Her Soul was out, and it was glowing dimly.

Steadily, he made his way over to the dying Temmie. It broke his heart to see how she was slowly fading. He wished her death once indirectly, but now he wanted to take it back.

"Temmie..." he whimpered as he fought the tears. His leaf hand slowly took hold of her paw. It was beginning to reduce to powder. "You always had soft paws...what have they done to you? I did this..."

Slowly, her beady eyes opened halfway. "Flowey..." her soft voice choked out.

"Temmie?"

She gave her same innocent smile. "...I knew...you'd be back..."

"Shut up...you idiot...save your strength..." he tried to sound strong for her.

"...Flowey...everything will be fine..."

"You're dying! How does that work?!" he yelled, almost breaking down as his tear freely flowed and he bit his lip to quiet the sobbing.

"...you came back...that means...you cared..."

"Then please don't leave me, Temmie...don't...don't leave me..."

"...I'm sorry I can't stay forever...promise me, Flowey...you'd be happy"

"Happy? How can I...?"

"...please...promise...for me..."

"I...I promise"

She smiled weakly. She placed a paw at his cheek, which he took. "...perhaps we shall meet again...in another life..."

"Temmie, no...please..."

"...it feels so nice to be with you..."

"Temmie, no! Don't go!"

"...goodbye, Flowey...I...love you..."

Before he could comprehend those words, her paw fell limply. He stared at her before she reduced to Dust. Her back paws began to go. All the while, he kept yelling for her to stay with him. He kept crying out for her. When the orderlies tried to come over, he used his vine walls to keep them away. Yet, no matter what he tried, she was gone.

"Temmie...you're an idiot..." he sobbed. "...but you were my idiot"

By the time the orderlies got in, it was a living flower crying beside a pile of Monster Dust.

==================================================

"Flowey, I'm really sorry..." Asriel tried to comfort the flower.

Throughout the entire time back, the goat boy kept replaying what happened in the hospital. He could feel Flowey's sadness, frustration, his hopes and dreams crushed. Temmie dying really did a number on him. He came over to their dreamscape, but the flower was still crying. He tried to offer him whatever comfort he could give him.

Flowey only glared up at him. "Sorry doesn't bring her back!"

"Yes, but what did you expect me to do? If I had known this would happen, I may have..."

"I don't care about what could've been done! She's dead! Do you hear me?!"

The goat backed away from the flower to avoid his wrath. He expected any minute now and giant Omega Flowey was about to take his anger out on him. Missiles would explode, giant pellets will rise, vines will crowd, gunshots will be fired...

But all was put aside as he only hung his head. A single tear fell down before a faint voice was heard.

"I hope you're happy now, Your Highness"

He couldn't stop it as the flower disappeared. That was when it finally occurred to him. Flowey made himself go away forever now that he had nothing to live for. He understood why he was so attached to Temmie.

Flowey loved her.
